Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Juan Peas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Eric Staal!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peas takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
We've been hearing reports that Peas has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Nice takedown defense from Staal. No joy for Peas on that attempt.
It seemed like Staal was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Staal has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Peas pushes Staal up against the ropes in a clinch.
Peas is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Staal creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Staal lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Peas changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Staal fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Peas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Peas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Staal will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Peas appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
A punch lands to the side of Peas 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Staal feints and then cracks Peas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Peas down.
Staal lands with a kick to the ribs.
Peas takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Peas on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Staal smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Peas takes one to the side of the head.
Staal with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Eric Staal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Staal lands a slapping body shot.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Staal - that will leave a mark!
Peas tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Staal manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Staal scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Peas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Staal counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Staal lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Eric Staal is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Peas takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Peas wants to clinch
and Staal counters with a low kick, right behind Peas 's knee.
Staal with a hook.
Peas tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Staal paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Staal is looking to slow Peas down with leg kicks.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Staal.
Staal lands a really nice looking cross but Peas seems unphased.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A nice leg kick lands there from Staal.
Staal scores with a nice head shot.
Staal throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Peas is looking to clinch.
Nice body punch from Staal.
Staal fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Peas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Staal dominated that round.

Staal tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Peas appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Peas has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Staal.
Staal scores with a head kick.
Staal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Peas tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Staal manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Peas misses with a jab to the body
and Staal counters with a right hand to the body.
Peas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Staal swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Peas is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Staal scores with a kick to the midsection.
Peas takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab lands there for Staal.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Staal connects with a body shot that sends Peas's belly button to the back.
Peas takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Good exchange - Staal coming out on top.
Staal throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


Peas is rocked!

Staal feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Peas sprawling to the canvas! Peas rolls over backwards and springs off the ropes and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Staal finish him?!
Oh Peas is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Staal connects with a body shot that sends Peas's belly button to the back.
Staal drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Peas right on the button. Peas goes down! Staal follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Staal gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eric Staal!
