PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guy Fawkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fawkes has chosen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MNqkc7E3w0 as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Guy Fawkes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter throws a big shot that misses.
Fawkes gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Carter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fawkes's guard.
Carter stays in close to Fawkes's body and controls the position.
Carter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fawkes is keeping the position for now.
Carter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Carter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Fawkes is looking to land body kicks.

A slow jab from Carter misses its intended target.

Fawkes throws a looping overhand right but Carter ducks down to avoid it.
Carter is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Fawkes.

Carter closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fawkes's guard.
Carter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter is pushing down on Fawkes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fawkes is fighting to maintain full guard but Carter has managed to sneak the leg through.

Fawkes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Carter scores with a couple of nice shots.
Fawkes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carter landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Carter is working for a submission of some sort.
Fawkes avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Carter.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Carter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Carter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Carter is figuring out what he wants to do next.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Carter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fawkes but Fawkes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Carter cracks Fawkes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Fawkes connects with a looping right hand.
Horrible takedown attempt by Carter or perhaps it was just good defense by Fawkes, which made it look bad.

Carter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fawkes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The strikes coming from Carter are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Carter goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Fawkes rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Carter's guard! Nice work there by Fawkes!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carter seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Carter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Fawkes wants to stand up but Carter is controlling him.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carter in particular looking to stall.

Carter is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fawkes defends it well.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Carter misses with a hook. Fawkes ducked under it nicely.

Carter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fawkes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carter is controlling him.
Carter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Carter stands and throws Fawkes's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Carter is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fawkes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Carter misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Carter lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Fawkes down.
Fawkes is trying to escape the position but Carter is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Michael Carter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fawkes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carter controls the pace.
Carter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fawkes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fawkes is looking to stand up but Carter isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Carter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
