PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johny Chambers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gurney Halleck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halleck has chosen The Clash-White Riot as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Gurney Halleck struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johny Chambers!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gurney Halleck!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halleck misses with an uppercut. Chambers saw that one coming.
Chambers looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Chambers closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Halleck's guard.
Chambers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Halleck works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Chambers missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chambers postures up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Chambers's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Chambers throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Halleck lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chambers is adopting a defensive guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chambers keeping full guard, as Halleck tries to pass.
Halleck is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Halleck trying to control the position from guard on top but Chambers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Halleck is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Chambers pulls Halleck in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gurney Halleck seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Halleck loads up on a big right hand but Chambers slips the punch.

Gurney Halleck is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Halleck slips a straight right by Chambers.
Chambers takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Chambers gets the takedown into side control.
Halleck managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Chambers.
Halleck on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Chambers is working Halleck over with some ground and pound from side control.


Halleck is rocked!
Chambers scoring with punches and elbows.
Halleck is still in real trouble! Can Chambers finish him?
Chambers misses with the ground and pound.
Chambers sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Halleck is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ground and pound from Chambers seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Halleck takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chambers cracks Halleck with a big right hand but Halleck just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chambers looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Halleck is avoiding damage well.
Chambers tries to score with some ground and pound. Halleck controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Chambers is trying to ground and pound but Halleck uses the momentary lack of control by Chambers to regain half guard.
Chambers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Halleck seems to have recovered his senses.
Halleck avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Chambers.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Halleck is looking to improve his position.
Chambers looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Halleck with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johny Chambers dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Halleck throws a hook but Chambers avoids it easily.
Chambers was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Halleck takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Halleck misses with a looping right.
Halleck misses with a shot to the body
and Chambers counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Chambers cracks Halleck with a left hook right on the temple and Halleck goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Chambers lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Halleck is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Johny Chambers!
