PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Quin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Gennero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quin's entrance music is Captain Jack - Iko Iko. A fine choice. Gennero has chosen Alan Walker - Faded as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Quin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ed Gennero !
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gennero throws a leg kick which misses Quin's front leg but catches the back leg as Quin tries to avoid it.
Quin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Quin lands with an uppercut that bounces Gennero off the cage and back into range.
A lazy body kick from Gennero
and Quin counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Quin throws a jab when Gennero was well out of range.
Quin with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gennero to score with a decent uppercut.
Quin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gennero tries to avoid it but Quin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gennero to the ground. Gennero escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Donk. Quin catches Gennero right on the button with a cross.
Quin chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Gennero can pounce on him.
Quin has been working on his boxing with his coaches at LOD: Ground Zero in the buildup to the fight.
Quin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Quin lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Quin.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Quin keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
As Gennero looks to move away, Quin throws a big counter combo but Gennero just gets out of the way.
Quin throws an overhand right that lands on Gennero 's shoulder, as Gennero tries to avoid the shot.
The fighters circling - Quin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gennero throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
It looked like Quin was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Quin throws the left hand but Gennero avoids the punch easily.

Quin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gennero wants to get back to his feet.
Gennero has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ground and pound from Quin seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Gennero is pushing Quin's head away, looking to escape. Quin manages to hold on to the position though.
Quin in side control, throwing shots but Gennero defends.
Quin lands an elbow.
Gennero pushes Quin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Quin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Gennero takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Gennero tries to escape but Quin is in control.
The strikes coming from Quin are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Gennero on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Gennero is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Quin is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Quin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gennero down.

Quin is trying to get an arm triangle but Gennero is defending well.

Gennero explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Gennero jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Quin appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Ed Gennero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Quin dives in for a single leg takedown but Gennero sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Quin scores with a jab to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gennero scores with a shot to the body.
Gennero throws a poor cross that misses
and Quin counters with a nice uppercut.
Gennero scores with a body shot.
Quin lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Quin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gennero is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Quin is controlling him well.
Quin scoring with punches and elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quin is looking to take a break and control but Gennero is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Quin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gennero is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Quin asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Quin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gennero bucks up and tries to throw Quin off but instead Quin has got his back!
Quin scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Gennero is covering up but some of the strikes from Quin are getting through and doing damage.
Gennero is taking damage to the body and head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gennero is trying to stand back up.

Quin is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Gennero knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Gennero for a finish.
Gennero is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Quin off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Quin has managed to slip his arm under Gennero 's chin. This could be all over... yep, Gennero is tapping out! Submission win for Quin.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Matt Quin!
Matt Quin is the new middleweight champion!
A relieved looking Matt Quin thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Ed Gennero stepped up to the mic, saying 'i give him rematch just one day after the first fight , and now i want number 3'.
