PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Abioye Nazari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fionn MacCumhaill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Nazari might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Do You Call My Name by Ra. Fionn MacCumhaill will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Abioye Nazari !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fionn MacCumhaill!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nazari takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Nazari has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Russian Fighting Community Gym in the buildup to the fight.
MacCumhaill fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
MacCumhaill is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nazari sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nice straight punches there by MacCumhaill. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of MacCumhaill.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nazari .
Nazari in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nazari scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at MacCumhaill to see if he's OK.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Nazari tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Nazari is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but MacCumhaill is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Nazari works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
MacCumhaill looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Nazari is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down MacCumhaill's shoulder. That is not cool.
Nazari has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
MacCumhaill can't do much from the bottom here.
Nazari has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A lull in the action here.
Nazari in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Nazari wants to control for a moment but MacCumhaill uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Nazari is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
MacCumhaill is looking for a sweep. Nazari is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
MacCumhaill has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nazari is working away from the top position though.
Nazari looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Nazari is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
MacCumhaill looks like he's trying to stand up.

Nazari is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Nazari passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for MacCumhaill!
MacCumhaill tries to get back to half guard but can't.
MacCumhaill really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nazari . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nazari takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

MacCumhaill tries to hold on but Nazari pushes him away.
Nazari content just to control the position here.
MacCumhaill taking shots to the head.
Nazari lands with some strikes.
Nazari tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Nazari is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but MacCumhaill is surviving well by controlling Nazari 's body position as best he can.

MacCumhaill is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abioye Nazari dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nazari slips under a jab.
Nazari swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nazari is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that MacCumhaill can do to turn this around?

A momentary lapse in concentration from MacCumhaill enables Nazari to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. MacCumhaill manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

MacCumhaill kicks Nazari off and gets to his feet.
MacCumhaill lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Nazari rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but MacCumhaill moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
MacCumhaill is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Nazari connects with a good right hand that stumbles MacCumhaill. MacCumhaill circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nazari throws a head kick but MacCumhaill moves out of range.
Nazari walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Nazari avoids the body shot from MacCumhaill.
Nazari scores with a kick to the midsection.
Nazari throws out a powerful jab.

Nazari scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Nazari looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks MacCumhaill with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nazari seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but MacCumhaill does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nazari in particular looking to stall.
Nazari works his way into side control.

Nazari wants to control but MacCumhaill is keeping him busy.

Nazari is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. MacCumhaill knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
