Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marco Polo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Mera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Polo's entrance music is On The Floor. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marco Polo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 16 - 1, fighting out of London, Jose Mera!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Polo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Marco Polo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Polo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Mera looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mera throws out a loose jab but Polo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Polo seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Polo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mera defends well and Polo ends up having to push Mera into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Polo tries to clinch there but Mera circles away.
Mera swats away the attempt to clinch by Polo.
Some wild striking there from Mera.
Polo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mera counters with a shoot takedown. Polo fights it but they end up in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Polo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Mera won't allow Polo to sweep him here.
Polo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mera manages to get to full guard.
Mera tries to strike from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Polo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Polo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Polo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mera's guard.
Polo is thwarting Mera's attempts to control the position.
Mera is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Polo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Polo's back!
Mera is trying to stick to Polo's back but Polo is turning into Mera. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mera's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Polo.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Polo wants to control from the top but Mera keeps moving.
Mera looking for a sweep. Not yet Mera, not yet.
Polo tries to free his leg and advance position but Mera is retaining full guard.
Polo won't allow Mera to sweep him here.

Polo postures up and lands a big shot to Mera's brow.
Polo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mera trying to keep a closed guard but Polo is proving a slippery customer.

Polo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mera regains full guard. Nicely done.

Polo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mera is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mera is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Polo defends it well.

Mera drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Polo dives on top into guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mera throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Polo on the side of the head.
Mera lands a really nice looking cross but Polo seems unphased.
Mera rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Polo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Polo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Polo is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Mera felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mera has his hands on Polo's head, controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Polo tries for a takedown but Mera sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mera shoots in looking for a takedown. Polo tries to sprawl out of it but Mera keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Polo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Polo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mera sprawls well. Mera wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Polo gets slowly back to his feet.

That's time! Polo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Polo shoots for a takedown but Mera saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Polo or perhaps it was just good defense by Mera, which made it look bad.
Polo tries to clinch there but Mera circles away.
Mera misses with a hook. Polo ducked under it nicely.
Mera connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Polo has his hands clasped together around Mera's back. He's all about the action.

Marco Polo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mera thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Polo's head.
Mera seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mera seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Polo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mera is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Mera trying to control the action but Polo is working from the bottom.
Mera is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Polo wants to improve his position but Mera is controlling well.
Mera is looking to advance position but Polo won't allow it.
Mera is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mera lands with an uppercut that bounces Polo off the ropes and back into range.
Mera might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Polo drives through with a takedown into Mera's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Mera has his foot on Polo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Polo works his way back into a safe position though.
