PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Igor Wietrzny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pithe Canthropus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wietrzny comes to the cage accompanied by Hunter-Fallen. Canthropus has chosen Pizzaman - Trippin' On Sunshine as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Igor Wietrzny!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 37 - 2, fighting out of London, Pithe Canthropus!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canthropus throws a right hand that misses
and Wietrzny counters with an outside leg kick.

Canthropus shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wietrzny is trying to defend but Canthropus finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Wietrzny is trying to stand.

Canthropus is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wietrzny is just riding it out for now. Canthropus eventually gives up the hold.
Wietrzny is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Canthropus is looking to pass Wietrzny's guard but actually Wietrzny recovers to full guard.
Canthropus passes into half guard.
Wietrzny keeping hold of Canthropus's head, controlling as best he can.

Canthropus is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wietrzny is just riding it out for now. Canthropus eventually gives up the hold.
Wietrzny is looking to control Canthropus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wietrzny avoid being mounted?
Wietrzny has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wietrzny is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Wietrzny is looking for a sweep. Canthropus is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wietrzny has his hands clasped together around Canthropus's back. He's all about the action.

Wietrzny manages to get to full guard.
Canthropus looking to sit in guard and control but Wietrzny gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Canthropus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Canthropus is trying to keep Wietrzny in close.
Wietrzny wants to control from the top but Canthropus keeps moving.

Wietrzny is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Canthropus wants to sweep here but Wietrzny controlling him for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Canthropus explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Igor Wietrzny will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Wietrzny lands a front kick.

Canthropus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wietrzny has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Canthropus off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Canthropus shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wietrzny is trying to control the position but Canthropus postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Canthropus connects with a couple of short punches.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Canthropus passes Wietrzny's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Wietrzny is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Canthropus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Canthropus's back!

Wietrzny is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Canthropus is defending well though. Wietrzny let's go of the attempt for now.
Canthropus tries to break free.

Canthropus is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Wietrzny gets his way!
Canthropus is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Wietrzny off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Wietrzny is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Canthropus is defending well though. Wietrzny let's go of the attempt for now.

Wietrzny is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Canthropus defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Wietrzny has his arm under Canthropus's chin here. Game over son! Wietrzny squeezes tightly and Canthropus is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Igor Wietrzny!
Our winner, Igor Wietrzny, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
In defeat, Pithe Canthropus stepped up to the mic, saying 'Crap. I lost. That sucks.'.
