PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wade Valencia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lukash Petrenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lukash Petrenko will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wade Valencia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lukash Petrenko!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Petrenko moves into the clinch successfully.
Stalling in the clinch from Valencia.

Petrenko has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Valencia regains guard immediately.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Valencia is working an open guard so Petrenko takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Petrenko tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Valencia misses with a two punch combination.
Petrenko throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Valencia stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Valencia tries to stand but Petrenko is controlling from the bottom.
Valencia lands a couple of elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Petrenko had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Valencia defends it easily.
Petrenko throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Petrenko is trying to control the position from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Valencia has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Petrenko is proving hard to escape from.

Valencia decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Petrenko, up you get!

and Petrenko counters with a three punch combo that has Valencia backing up. Valencia nods at Petrenko to acknowledge the strikes.

Valencia fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Petrenko to the ground. Valencia is now in Petrenko's guard.

Petrenko is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Valencia presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Petrenko looks winded!

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Petrenko counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Valencia pushes Petrenko off and scrambles back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Valencia tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Petrenko defends well and Valencia ends up having to push Petrenko into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Petrenko is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Valencia shoots in but no luck this time.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Petrenko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Valencia is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Valencia wanted to stand there but Petrenko had control of the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Petrenko controls Valencia momentarily but Valencia frees himself.
Petrenko has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Valencia working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Valencia has a takedown stuffed.
Petrenko is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wade Valencia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Valencia missing with a left hand there. Petrenko was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Valencia really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Valencia decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Petrenko makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Valencia is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Petrenko pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Valencia has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Petrenko is trying to keep an underhook but Valencia manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Valencia is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Petrenko moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Valencia throws an elbow that misses. Petrenko uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Valencia's guard. Nice move by Petrenko!

That's time! Valencia's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Petrenko drives through and clinches with Valencia against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Valencia changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Petrenko fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Petrenko just misses with a punch to the body.

Petrenko turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Petrenko manages to end up in side control.
Petrenko wants to control but Valencia is keeping him busy.

Lukash Petrenko has got the better of the ground game so far.

Petrenko decides to stand back up. Petrenko steps back and let's Valencia get back to his feet.
Valencia throws a hook to the side of Petrenko's head but Petrenko sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Petrenko defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Valencia.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wade Valencia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Petrenko is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Petrenko wants to control the position but Valencia says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Valencia seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Valencia is working for a submission of some sort.
Petrenko regains full guard. Nicely done.
Lukash Petrenko is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Valencia lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Petrenko wants to sweep here but Valencia controlling him for the moment.

Valencia gets to his feet - Petrenko follows without any prompting.
Valencia moves out of range as Petrenko throws a body kick.
Valencia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Petrenko.
The fight stays on the outside here - Valencia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wade Valencia has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lukash Petrenko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Petrenko has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
