Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marty Jonas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nelson Pervis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marty Jonas has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marty Jonas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nelson Pervis!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pervis misses with the body kick

and Jonas counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jonas.

Pervis working for a triangle but Jonas defends it easily.
Pervis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pervis has his foot on Jonas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jonas works his way back into a safe position though.

Pervis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jonas defends it easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jonas lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Jonas wanted to stand there but Pervis had control of the position.

Jonas definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pervis tries to get to full guard but Jonas has control of the leg.
Jonas is taking a breather. Pervis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Pervis told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pervis manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jonas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pervis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jonas has managed to get both his arms back between Pervis's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jonas stands and throws Pervis's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Jonas is chipping away with strikes.
Pervis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jonas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Pervis is looking to regain half guard here but Jonas keeps moving and retains side control.
Pervis sneaks back into half guard.
Jonas slows the pace down in half guard.
Pervis is trying to get back to full guard.

Jonas content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Pervis is looking to control Jonas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pervis avoid being mounted?

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jonas tries to stand but can't do so whilst Pervis controls his leg.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That was a close round but I would say that Marty Jonas will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Jonas takes a jab right on the kisser.
Marty Jonas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pervis throws a hook but Jonas blocks it.
Pervis swings for the body but Jonas moves out of range.

Jonas moves into range and clinches up with Pervis.

Jonas has picked Pervis up - he's going for a ride! Jonas dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Pervis kicks Jonas off and gets back to his feet.
Jonas on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jonas staying out of range there.
Pervis looks to land a combination but Jonas avoids it well.
Jonas shoots in for a double leg but Pervis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pervis is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Jonas with a body shot.
Nelson Pervis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pervis keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A low kick from Pervis misses

and Jonas counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pervis!
Pervis is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Jonas is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Pervis tries to hold on but Jonas pushes him away.

Jonas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jonas prevents Pervis from getting the reversal.

Jonas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Jonas is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Pervis to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Pervis shrugs it off.

Pervis breaks Jonas's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pervis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jonas keeps working.
Jonas tries to get to full guard but Pervis has control of the leg.
Pervis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jonas's head.

Pervis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pervis has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jonas defend it? Pervis steps over the head and cranks it - Jonas is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Pervis!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nelson Pervis!
An out of breath Nelson Pervis thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
