Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Marfaker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Harry Owen!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Damien Edna and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marfaker fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Marfaker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Owen circles away quickly and effectively.
Marfaker misses with the body kick
and Owen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Owen wants to control from the top but Marfaker keeps moving.
Marfaker has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Owen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marfaker swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marfaker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Marfaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owen is fighting to break Marfaker's control of his arms but Marfaker is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marfaker finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Owen with the counter takedown but Marfaker avoids it easily.
Marfaker misses with a body shot.
Owen slips a straight right by Marfaker.
And Owen tries to counter it with a takedown but Marfaker pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Marfaker looks to land a left hand but Owen moved out of range nicely.
Marfaker thows a leg kick but Owen checks it
and Owen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Owen drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Marfaker dives on top into guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
