PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daxx Goodman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Haven Baez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daxx Goodman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Haven Baez!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goodman fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Baez stuffs the takedown.
Baez tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Goodman closes the distance and clinches.
Goodman tries to pull guard but Baez holds him up against the cage and eventually Goodman drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daxx Goodman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Goodman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Goodman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Goodman stops a takedown attempt from Baez.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Goodman decides to pull guard.

Baez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Goodman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Baez has Goodman in his guard.

Goodman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Baez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Goodman, into his guard.

Baez looking to sit in guard and control but Goodman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Goodman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Baez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Goodman wants to stand but Baez is controlling his posture from full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Baez throws an elbow that misses. Goodman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Baez's guard. Nice move by Goodman!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Baez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Goodman is controlling him.
Goodman wants to control from the top but Baez keeps moving.

Daxx Goodman dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Goodman dives in and grabs Baez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Baez pushes down on Goodman's head and hops out.

Daxx Goodman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Goodman wants to get up but he can't break Baez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Baez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Baez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goodman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Baez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Goodman controls the pace.

Goodman tries to free his leg and advance position but Baez is retaining full guard.

Baez has his foot on Goodman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Goodman works his way back into a safe position though.

Baez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Goodman escapes and throws Baez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Goodman has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Baez!

Goodman lands a big shot there that rocks Baez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Goodman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Baez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Baez has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daxx Goodman dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Baez shoots and misses

and Goodman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Goodman.
Goodman stops a takedown attempt from Baez.

Goodman breaks from the clinch.

Goodman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Baez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Baez is looking to get back to his feet here but Goodman is keeping cool and he's managed to take Baez's back.

Baez defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Goodman's arms.

Goodman is cranking Baez's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Baez! He's tightened the choke and Baez is tapping out!
