Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jules Hull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Hiwatari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kai Hiwatari has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jules Hull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kai Hiwatari!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiwatari shoots in looking for a takedown. Hull tries to sprawl out of it but Hiwatari keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hull manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hiwatari wants to clinch up but Hull keeps it at a distance.
Hull is looking for a counter combo.
Hiwatari shoots in for a takedown but Hull shows good takedown defense.
Hiwatari connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.


It looks like Jules Hull has been cut.
Hull avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hiwatari misses with a double jab
and Hull counters with a body kick.
Hiwatari misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jules Hull has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Hiwatari.

Hiwatari looks to throw the jab but Hull is out of range.
Hiwatari throws a series of punches but Hull moves out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hull breaks the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hiwatari.
It looked like Hull was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Hiwatari throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hull counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Hiwatari fails to land with a series of punches.
Hiwatari misses with a few strikes there.
Hiwatari looks winded!

Hull drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hull decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Hull stuffs the takedown attempt from Hiwatari. Hiwatari gets slowly back to his feet.

Hiwatari gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hull is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hull postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Hull stands up and waves to Hiwatari to follow him.
Hiwatari throws a one two combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hiwatari tries to clinch up.

Hull shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hull working over Hiwatari with some ground and pound. Hiwatari looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hull thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hull throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Hull is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hiwatari doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hull.

Hull decides to stand and escape the position.

Hull closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hiwatari blocks a body shot from Hull.
Hiwatari wants to get back to striking at distance but Hull won't allow it.

Hiwatari breaks the clinch.
Hiwatari shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hull but Hull pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Hull changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hiwatari looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hull tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hull has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hull landing strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jules Hull dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jules Hull's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hull takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Hiwatari lands a jab to the head.

Hull decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Hiwatari manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Nice sprawl there from Hull as Hiwatari shoots in.
Hiwatari misses with a takedown
and Hull counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hiwatari tries to clinch up
and Hull counters with a left to the body.
Hiwatari is breathing heavily.

Hull moves into range and clinches up with Hiwatari.
Hull stalls.
Hiwatari tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hull avoids it.
Hull's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Hiwatari tries to pull guard but Hull holds him up against the cage and eventually Hiwatari drops back down to his feet.
Jules Hull has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Hiwatari.
Hull slows down the pace here.

Hull jumps guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hiwatari preventing the sweep.
Hiwatari trying to control the position from guard on top but Hull is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hiwatari advances position into side control!

Hiwatari is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hull has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hiwatari trying to control the action but Hull is working from the bottom.
Hiwatari laying and praying for a moment but Hull takes advantage and regains half guard.

Hull slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hiwatari postures up.
Hull keeping full guard, as Hiwatari tries to pass.
Hull seems keen to control Hiwatari's posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hull not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hiwatari trying to control the position from guard on top but Hull is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hiwatari decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hull, up you get!
Hiwatari looks for a takedown but Hull sprawls well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hiwatari throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hull counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jules Hull will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Hiwatari enables Hull to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hiwatari manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Hiwatari has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hull can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hull knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hiwatari on the ground.
Hull postures up in Hiwatari's guard and throws a big left but Hiwatari blocks it.
Hiwatari is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hull trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Hull stands and steps away. Hiwatari gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Hull fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hiwatari, pushing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hull is struggling to control the position.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Hull.
Hull controlling the action here for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hiwatari tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hull smiles and moves away.
Hiwatari takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nice sprawl there from Hull as Hiwatari shoots in.
Hiwatari swinging wildly here.
Hiwatari thows a left - swing and a miss!
Hull throwing a counter right hand but Hiwatari manages to avoid it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hiwatari or perhaps it was just good defense by Hull, which made it look bad.
Jules Hull has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Hiwatari.
Hull fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hiwatari shoots in but Hull avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hull dives in for a single leg takedown but Hiwatari sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Hull takes the fight into the clinch.
Hull has Hiwatari pressed against the cage.
Hiwatari wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hull utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Hull is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hiwatari can do to turn this around?

Hull displaying some good clinch control by pressing Hiwatari up against the cage.
Hull pressing his opponent against the cage.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Hull for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Hull obliges.
Hull is pushing Hiwatari up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hiwatari wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hull has Hiwatari pressed against the cage.

Hull pulls guard.
Hiwatari is fighting to break Hull's control of his arms but Hull is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Jules Hull overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hiwatari postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hull wants to sweep here but Hiwatari controlling him for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jules Hull showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hull has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
