PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kshitij Singh Negi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kshitij Singh Negi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Souza!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Singh Negi darts in and clinches Souza up against the cage.
Singh Negi throws an elbow that misses.
Souza can't break the clinch.
Singh Negi keeps control of Souza as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Souza tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Singh Negi smiles and moves away.
Singh Negi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Souza bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Souza tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Souza has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Souza advances to mount.

Souza is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Singh Negi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Singh Negi shrugs it off.

Souza is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Singh Negi knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Singh Negi for a finish.

Souza is looking for a choke. Singh Negi gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Singh Negi manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Singh Negi just misses with a elbow thrown towards Souza's brow.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Souza dives in for a single leg takedown but Singh Negi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Souza is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Singh Negi has his hands clasped together but Souza extends and breaks Singh Negi's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Souza.
