Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Atkinson!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Atkinson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Valencia avoids it really well and circles away.

Valencia moves into the clinch.
Valencia could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Atkinson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Valencia wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valencia tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Atkinson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Atkinson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Valencia holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Valencia is trying to control Atkinson's posture but Atkinson avoids it.
Atkinson cracks Valencia with a big elbow.


It looks like Trevor Valencia has been cut.
Valencia wants to control but Atkinson postures up.

Atkinson prevents Valencia from escaping the position.

Atkinson tries for a kimura but Valencia is defending well.
Atkinson is staying tight to Valencia's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Valencia is looking to regain half guard here but Atkinson keeps moving and retains side control.

Dave Atkinson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Valencia on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Atkinson. Atkinson obviously looking to wear him down.

Valencia gets caught napping as Atkinson dives in and scores a takedown. Valencia manages to retain guard.
Valencia is trying to keep Atkinson in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Valencia isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Atkinson stacks Valencia on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Atkinson!
Valencia is trying to buck Atkinson off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Atkinson trying to control the position but Valencia is working away.
You can see the frustration on Valencia's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Valencia tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Atkinson looking to control but Valencia is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Valencia for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Atkinson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Valencia pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Valencia gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Atkinson.
Atkinson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Valencia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Trevor Valencia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Atkinson.

Come on Valencia - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Atkinson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Valencia uses from the top position.

Atkinson wants to control but Valencia passes easily into half guard.

Valencia is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Atkinson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Valencia.

Atkinson moves into full guard.
Valencia looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Valencia postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Atkinson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Valencia throws a big elbow that misses.
Valencia content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Dave Atkinson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Valencia controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Atkinson has Valencia up against the cage in a clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Atkinson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Atkinson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Valencia jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Atkinson walks away with a smile on his face. Valencia gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Atkinson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Valencia!
Valencia wants to get back to his feet but Atkinson drags him back down.
Valencia stops Atkinson from passing to mount.

Valencia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Atkinson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A close second round but Dave Atkinson will probably get the nod - 10:9.

It looked like Valencia was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Trevor Valencia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Atkinson.
Atkinson and Valencia are patiently standing in front of each other looking for an opening. Atkinson throws a head kick. It's landed, knocking Valencia into next week! Ooooh that was huge! Atkinson knows it - he's on the cage flexing is biceps. That's a bit weird considering he won by kick but whatever.
