Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cletus Buckley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Monsoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cletus Buckley has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cletus Buckley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Monsoon!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Topper Green and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monsoon throws a lazy head kick

and Buckley decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Monsoon's guard.
Monsoon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Buckley stands up and waves to Monsoon to follow him.
Nice sprawl there from Buckley as Monsoon shoots in.
It looked like Buckley wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Monsoon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Buckley defends well and Monsoon ends up having to push Buckley into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Buckley closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Monsoon's guard.
Monsoon wants to get back to his feet but Buckley passes into half guard.
Buckley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Buckley in particular looking to stall.
Buckley seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Monsoon for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Monsoon tries to roll over but Buckley keeps him under control.

Monsoon fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Buckley to the ground. Monsoon is now in Buckley's guard.

Monsoon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Cletus Buckley dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monsoon misses with a two punch combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Monsoon.
No luck for Monsoon with that takedown attempt.
Buckley uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Monsoon.
Chris Monsoon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Monsoon is trying to control the action in half guard but Buckley is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Monsoon is breathing heavily.
Buckley desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Buckley wants to sweep but Monsoon has passed to side control!

Monsoon decides to stand back up. Monsoon steps back and let's Buckley get back to his feet.

Buckley shoots for a double leg takedown but Monsoon sprawls well. He's pushed Buckley's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Monsoon dives in and grabs Buckley's left leg, looking for a takedown. Buckley pushes down on Monsoon's head and hops out.

Monsoon misses with a low kick.
Buckley tries to close the distance and clinch but Monsoon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Monsoon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Monsoon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Buckley decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Monsoon, up you get!

That was a close second round but I would say that Cletus Buckley will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Monsoon shoots for a takedown but Buckley saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Monsoon shoots in looking for a takedown. Buckley tries to sprawl out of it but Monsoon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Buckley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Buckley gets control of Monsoon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Buckley will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Monsoon wants to control from the top but Buckley keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buckley is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Monsoon presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

No joy there for Monsoon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Monsoon has managed to clinch.
Monsoon throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Buckley blocks it with crossed arms.

Monsoon is working for takedown but Buckley is calmly controlling the position for now.

Cletus Buckley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Buckley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Buckley is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Monsoon looking for subs off his back but Buckley has passed one foot through into half guard.

Chris Monsoon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cletus Buckley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Buckley, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
