Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darrin Burt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sean Smith will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darrin Burt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sean Smith!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith closes the distance and clinches.

Smith breaks from the clinch.
Burt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Burt misses with a head kick.
Burt misses with a lunging right hand

and Smith counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Smith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Smith gets control of Burt's arms and successfully pulls guard. Smith will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Burt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Smith utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Burt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Burt.
Burt seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Burt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Burt wants it to stay on the feet.
Burt throws a big counter combination but Smith scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Sean Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Burt tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a head kick.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Burt wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sean Smith will probably get the nod.

Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Burt is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Burt circles away and we're back to standing.

Smith lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Burt circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Burt circles away quickly and effectively.
Smith tries to clinch but Burt is having none of it.

Smith clinches up with Burt and pushes him back against the cage.

A frustrated look appears on Burt's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Burt has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment.
Smith wants to take the fight to the mat but Burt manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Burt is trying to break the clinch but Smith is controlling him.
Smith working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Burt wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Smith pulls Burt into guard.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Burt postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.
Smith wants to stand but Burt is controlling the position.

Burt scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Burt lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Burt passes into side control.
Smith is trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burt creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Smith sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Burt circles away from the clinch attempt.

Burt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.

Smith has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Burt off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Burt connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Smith uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Burt.
Burt shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Burt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Burt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Burt, pushing him back against the cage.

Smith drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Burt gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Burt looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Smith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Burt just stands there and leans against the cage.

Smith breaks the clinch.
Smith throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Burt throws a body punch but Smith moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Smith has taken the fight to the clinch.
Smith has Burt pressed against the cage, preventing Burt from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Smith clinches up with Burt and pushes him back against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Burt.

Burt wants to break free but Smith has control.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Smith throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Smith tries to land knees in the clinch but Burt avoids the damage to the body.
Burt tries to break free but Smith pushes him back against the cage.
Smith is trying to pull guard but Burt has him pressed against the cage.
Burt wants to break free but Smith has control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Come on Burt - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Burt looking to slow down the pace here.
Smith fails to pull guard.
Smith pressing his opponent against the cage.
Smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Burt walks away with a smile on his face. Smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sean Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
