The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuusi dives in for a single leg takedown but Hanson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hanson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kuusi doesn't seem bothered though.
Hanson lands a nice looking body shot.
Kuusi with a poor takedown
and Hanson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kuusi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hanson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kuusi somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ilmari Kuusi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kuusi shoots and misses
and Hanson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Kuusi.
Hanson is looking to reverse the position.
Kuusi is trying to get an arm triangle but Hanson is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kuusi working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Kuusi has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hanson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Kuusi is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Hanson is trying to escape and Kuusi transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Hanson is forced to tap! Nice work there by Kuusi! Very nice indeed!
