Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Govan Aerts!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aerts shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Thomas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Aerts trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Thomas wants to stand but Aerts is controlling the position.
Thomas avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Aerts trying to control the position from guard on top but Thomas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Thomas working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Aerts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas is pulling down on Aerts's head to control his posture.
Aerts advances to half guard.
Thomas is looking to improve his position.
Aerts wants to pass to mount but Thomas is defending the position.

Aerts takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Aerts thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Thomas's head.
Aerts wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.
Aerts is thwarting Thomas's attempts to control the position.
Aerts seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Aerts thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Aerts wants to work for an arm triangle but Thomas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Aerts is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are battling for position here. Thomas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Aerts trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Aerts loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Aerts wants to pass the guard but Thomas is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Aerts is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Thomas's half guard.

Thomas definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Thomas is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Aerts wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thomas, who protects the arm well.

Aerts working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Aerts thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Aerts swings around for an armbar but Thomas sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Aerts's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Aerts moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Govan Aerts dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Thomas drops Aerts with a left right combo! Thomas follows him down to the ground into side control.


It looks like Govan Aerts has been cut.
Thomas passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Aerts!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aerts tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Thomas wants to control the pace but Aerts is squirming around nicely.
Thomas lands a heavy elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Aerts tries to get to full guard but Thomas has control of the leg.

Thomas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Aerts doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Thomas.
Thomas passes to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aerts is trying to work for a sweep but Thomas has mounted him!
Aerts wants to control but Thomas is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thomas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Aerts can do to turn this around?
Thomas lands with some strikes.
Thomas postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Aerts badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Thomas around the waist but Thomas pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Thomas is the winner by TKO! Thomas jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Evan Thomas!
