PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gavin Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Potter has taken the fight to the clinch.

Potter breaks the clinch.
Freeman misses with a hook. Potter ducked under it nicely.
Freeman just misses with a punch to the body.
Freeman misses with a body shot.
Freeman on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Potter. Potter obviously looking to wear him down.
Freeman scoring well with a low kick there.
Freeman lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Freeman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Potter throws a head kick that misses.

Potter clinches.
Potter can't get the takedown.
Potter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Freeman pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Potter.

Potter has clasped his hands together around Freeman's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Potter staying calm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Potter swings around for an armbar but Freeman sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Potter's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Potter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Freeman's guard.

Potter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Freeman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Freeman keeping moving, preventing Potter from controlling successfully.
Freeman has control of Potter's left arm, preventing Potter from doing any damage.
Potter advances position into side control!
Potter working the ground and pound but Freeman is defending the strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Freeman is looking to reverse the position.
Freeman takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Potter is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Freeman's shoulder. That is not cool.
Potter trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.

Potter tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Potter has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Potter crashes against the mat.
Potter connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Freeman some visible discomfort.
Potter trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.
Potter in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Potter tries to move into full mount but can't pass Freeman's legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Freeman is trying to improve his position.

Potter is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Freeman has escaped the position, nice work there.
Freeman dodges the ground and pound from Potter.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Potter controlling from side mount.
Potter works to advance to full mount. Freeman defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Potter dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Potter clinches up with Freeman and pushes him back against the cage.
Potter drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Freeman gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Freeman has a couple of punches blocked by Potter.
Freeman swings wildly with an uppercut but Potter uses good head movement to avoid it.
A head punch on the inside from Freeman fails to land.
Potter tries to score a body lock takedown but Freeman shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Freeman misses with the head strike.

Potter breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Freeman has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Potter finds it's way round the side to connect with Freeman's head.
Potter scores with a jab to the head.
Potter feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Freeman's calf.
Freeman lands with a straight right. Potter didn't see that one coming.
We've been told by Freeman's head coaches at London MMA Club that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Freeman misses with a series of wild punches.
Potter shoots in for a takedown but Freeman shows good takedown defense.
Gavin Freeman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Potter.

Potter uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Freeman.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Potter throws a series of punches but Freeman avoids them all with ease.
Freeman is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Potter throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Freeman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Potter manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Freeman misses with the combination.
Potter circles away from the clinch attempt.
A jab from Freeman misses.
Freeman ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Freeman misses with a low kick.
A leg kick checked by Freeman.
Potter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Freeman moves away.
Freeman fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Potter lands a really nice looking cross but Freeman seems unphased.
Freeman jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Potter throws a combination. Freeman tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Potter has Freeman up against the cage in a clinch.
Freeman lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Freeman lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Freeman misses with a short punch on the inside.

Potter lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Freeman wants to get back to full guard.
Potter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Potter wants to control but Freeman is keeping him busy.
Potter passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Freeman!
Freeman is in all sorts of trouble here.

Freeman manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Freeman, under a barage of strikes from Potter.

Potter works his way into full mount!
Potter controlling the pace for now.
Potter lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Potter wants to control the pace but Freeman is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Alexander Potter will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Freeman throws an overhand right that lands on Potter's shoulder, as Potter tries to avoid the shot.
Potter with the counter takedown but Freeman avoids it easily.
Freeman takes a swing at Potter's ribcage but misses.
Freeman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Potter was well out of range. Poor timing from Freeman.
Potter steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Freeman.
Freeman takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Potter darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Sloppy strikes from Freeman. Those never looked like landing.
Freeman takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Potter takes the fight into the clinch.
Potter wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Alexander Potter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Potter takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Potter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Freeman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Potter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Freeman, who protects the arm well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Freeman is being controlled here.
Potter tries to move to mount but Freeman blocks the move with his legs.
Potter laying and praying for a moment but Freeman takes advantage and regains half guard.
Potter is taking a breather. Freeman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Potter wants to control but Freeman is keeping him busy.
Freeman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Potter is working away from the top position though.
Potter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Potter trying to pass the guard but Freeman defending well.
Potter controlling the action here.
Freeman is looking to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Freeman takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Potter with a lazy takedown attempt
and Freeman counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Gavin Freeman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Freeman takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Potter throws a leg kick that misses.
Potter wants to clinch.
Freeman throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Freeman missing with a left hand there. Potter was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Potter defending well as Freeman loads up on a big left hand.
A looping hook to the body misses from Freeman. Potter does a little dance to reset his feet.
Freeman tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Potter is able to avoid easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Alexander Potter.
I've got Potter winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
