PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Van Dan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shino Akazaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Dan comes to the cage accompanied by Merged. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akazaki closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Van Dan's guard.

Van Dan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Akazaki on the ground.
Van Dan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Akazaki is working away from the top position though.

Van Dan looks to score with a jab to the body but Akazaki is just out of range.

Van Dan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Akazaki scores with a couple of nice shots.
Van Dan is looking to control Akazaki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Van Dan avoid being mounted?
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Akazaki is working for a submission of some sort.

Shino Akazaki dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Akazaki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Van Dan is wriggling around but Akazaki manages to pass to half guard.

Let's hope that Akazaki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Van Dan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Akazaki jumps into side control!

Akazaki works to advance to full mount. Van Dan defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Akazaki is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Van Dan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Van Dan is in a horrible position here. Akazaki smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Akazaki lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Akazaki has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
