PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jules Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kim Un (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim Un will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jules Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kim Un!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Un misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Un will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Un is trying hard to land a takedown here. Griffin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
As Un backs away, Griffin returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Griffin takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Griffin avoids the head kick by Un.

Un moves into the clinch.
Griffin is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Un has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Griffin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Un tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Un has Griffin pushed against the cage.
Griffin is looking for a takedown.

Un tries to pull guard but Griffin forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Jules Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kim Un.

Griffin pulls guard effortlessly.

Griffin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Un doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Un manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Griffin wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Un is now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Un is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Un throws an elbow that misses. Griffin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Un's guard. Nice move by Griffin!

Griffin distracts Un with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Griffin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Griffin is standing up over Un. Un looks to escape but Griffin dives into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Un is trying to get back to half guard.
Un defending against the ground and pound.
Griffin has control of an arm but Un manages to advance to Griffin's back!

Griffin is trying to shake Un off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Un won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
Griffin stuffs the takedown attempt from Un. Un gets slowly back to his feet.
Griffin throws a head kick but Un moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Un shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Griffin has one foot on Un's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Griffin tries to clinch but Un is having none of it.
It seemed like Un was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Griffin has closed the distance and engaged Un in a clinch.
Un is pressed up against the cage. Griffin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Un down to the mat. Un avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Un shoots for a double leg takedown but Griffin sprawls well. He's pushed Un's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Un looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffin is fending him off so far but Un persists. Nope, Griffin circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jules Griffin dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Un clinches up with Griffin and pushes him back against the cage.
Griffin tries to pull guard but Un forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Un tries to pull guard but Griffin holds him up against the cage and eventually Un drops back down to his feet.

Griffin has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Un clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griffin slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Griffin misses with an elbow to the head.
Griffin is riding his opponent, not letting Un buck him off.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Griffin. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Un wants to escape the position.
Griffin not allowing Un to control his hands.

I would not like to be Un right now.
Griffin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Un can do to turn this around?
Un just trying to survive but Griffin is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Griffin is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Un knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Un for a finish.
Un trying to control the hands but Griffin won't let him.

Griffin controlling from the back.
Un rolls, trying to escape but Griffin keeps control of the position.
Griffin is looking to control Un but Un is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Un trying to get back to his feet but Griffin is in full control for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Un is keeping busy.
Un trying to control the hands but Griffin won't let him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Both fighters circling a little - Un finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Un closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Un tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Griffin is looking to take this one to the mat.
Griffin goes for a takedown attempt but Un pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A thudding body kick lands there by Un!
Jules Griffin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Un looking to score a takedown here. Griffin is defending well but Un drives through and ends up in Griffin's guard.
Un slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Griffin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Un stands and steps away. Griffin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Griffin takes the fight into the clinch.

Un escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice sprawl there from Griffin as Un shoots in.
Griffin went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Griffin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Un shoots in and bounces Griffin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Un gets to his feet. Griffin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Un fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jules Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kim Un.

Un is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Griffin's half guard.
Griffin wants to control but Un is keeping busy.
Un content to control rather than advance.
Griffin moves into full guard.

Jules Griffin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Griffin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kim Un comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Griffin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
