PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nova Zigaman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Voodoo People. Thomas Johnson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 33 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Nova Zigaman!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Johnson dives in and grabs Zigaman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Zigaman pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.
Johnson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Zigaman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A punch combination from Johnson misses.
Zigaman connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Johnson closes the distance looking to clinch
and Zigaman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Zigaman counters with a shoot takedown. Johnson fights it but they end up in guard.
Zigaman is working Johnson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Zigaman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Zigaman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Johnson keeping moving, preventing Zigaman from controlling successfully.
Johnson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Johnson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Johnson is working hard here to advance position.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but Zigaman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Zigaman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Johnson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Zigaman has Johnson in his guard.

Johnson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Johnson wants to control from the top but Zigaman keeps moving.
Zigaman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've been hearing good reports from Johnson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Zigaman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Johnson pulls his head out easily.

Johnson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Zigaman, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Zigaman against the cage but Zigaman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A countering left hand to the body from Zigaman misses.
Zigaman lets loose with a powerful body kick. Johnson will feel that in the morning.
Johnson wants to clinch up but Zigaman keeps it at a distance.
Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Zigaman counters with a nice body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zigaman swivels and escapes.

Zigaman shoots in and gets a takedown into Johnson's guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nova Zigaman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Zigaman cracks Johnson with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Johnson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Zigaman connects with a decent elbow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zigaman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Zigaman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson works his way to full guard. Good work.
Johnson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Zigaman is looking for a kimura but Johnson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Zigaman to get the leverage.

Nova Zigaman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zigaman's waist but Zigaman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.

Zigaman thuds his right hand into Johnson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Johnson is trying to control Zigaman's posture but Zigaman avoids it.

Zigaman is chipping away with strikes.
Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Zigaman keeps moving and retains side control.
Johnson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
You can see the frustration on Johnson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Zigaman misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Johnson is trying to buck Zigaman off.
Zigaman lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnson down.
Johnson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.


Johnson is rocked!
Johnson pushes Zigaman away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Zigaman gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Oh Johnson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Zigaman in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Zigaman controls the position from side control.
Johnson seems to have got his legs back now.
Johnson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Zigaman asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Johnson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Zigaman controls the position.
Zigaman gets to mount! Johnson was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Johnson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Johnson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Zigaman tries to control but Johnson wriggling away.
Zigaman lands a heavy elbow.
Zigaman with a couple of short strikes.


It looks like Thomas Johnson has been cut.
Zigaman softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Johnson is out cold! Zigaman jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nova Zigaman!
Nova Zigaman took some time post fight to say the following; 'If you look up the word loser in the dictionary, it will have a picture of Gab Batista. Listen, junior... get yourself another job and don't ever think you can compete with the freak again.'.
