PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Erwin Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evan West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Erwin Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Evan West!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West misses with a wild combination.
West tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Torres swivels and escapes.
Torres really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Torres tries to keep at a distance but West has taken the fight into the clinch.
Torres with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Torres tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
West misses with a hook from the clinch.
West working hard to break the clinch.

West's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Horrible takedown attempt by Torres or perhaps it was just good defense by West, which made it look bad.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Torres keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Torres closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
West pushes Torres off looking to stand but Torres dives back in and keeps control.
Torres is controlling the pace.

Torres will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

West throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Torres on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

and West counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by West.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erwin Torres. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Torres is trying to pull guard but West turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

West breaks from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
West shoots in looking for a takedown. Torres tries to sprawl out of it but West keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Torres manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Torres throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around West's waist but West gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Torres off to one side.

West gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

West has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Torres can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Torres is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
West bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Torres's guard.

Torres is adopting a defensive guard.
West prevents Torres from getting back to his feet.
West wanted to stand there but Torres had control of the position.
Torres looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
West wanted to stand there but Torres had control of the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
West stalks Torres and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Torres's face. Torres staggers backwards, shaken.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Evan West dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


West darts in looking for a takedown but Torres gets double underhooks and turns West into the cage.


It looks like Erwin Torres has been cut.
West connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
West looks to land a combination but Torres avoids it well.
West leaves Torres with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
West throws a body punch but Torres moves out of range.
Torres tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but West swivels and escapes.
Torres chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before West can pounce on him.
West misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

West has closed the distance and engaged Torres in a clinch.
Torres blocks the elbow strike.

Torres has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but West regains guard immediately.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
West preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Torres slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Torres postures up in West's guard and throws a big left but West blocks it.
Torres lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Torres throwing strikes but missing.

West wants to get back to his feet but Torres is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
West being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
West misses with a wild body shot.
West throws a nice looking combination but Torres bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
West looking to land some kicks to the body here.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from West is defended easily by Torres.
Torres appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
West is breathing heavily.
Torres looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erwin Torres. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Evan West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Torres slips a straight right by West.

West throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Torres was covering up waiting for the punch and West finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Torres escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. West gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Torres throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Torres is controlling West's posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Torres trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
West wanted to stand there but Torres had control of the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
West lands a left hand.
West lands a right hand that snaps the head of Torres backwards.
West tries to pull guard but Torres won't allow it.
West misses with a knee strike.

Torres jumps guard and drags West to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Torres managing to control the position.
Torres continues to stall.
Torres thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
West wants to stand and escape but instead Torres has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

West is looking to stand up but Torres isn't so interested in that idea.
Torres chips away with some ground and pound.
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Torres. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

West has momentary wrist control but Torres slips an elbow through the middle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

West is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Torres presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
West takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Torres jumps guard and drags West to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Torres looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Torres is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Torres has a closed guard, preventing West from standing up.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Evan West.
I've got West winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
