PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kiro Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dyson Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kiro Souza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dyson Knight!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Souza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Souza stops Knight from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Knight is retaining full guard.
Knight not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Souza advances position into side control!
Souza scores with a couple of short elbows.
Knight is trying to buck Souza off.
Souza wants to control but Knight is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Souza wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Knight, who protects the arm well.
Knight takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Knight is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Souza is controlling him well.
Souza tries to score with some ground and pound. Knight controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Souza is trying to get an arm triangle but Knight is defending well.

Souza decides to stand back up.

Souza keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Knight.

Souza shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Knight is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Souza presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Souza gets underhooks to prevent Knight's takedown attempt.
Knight tries to circle away but Souza has him pinned against the cage.

Souza pulls guard.
Knight looking to sit in guard and control but Souza gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Knight is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Souza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Knight is looking to stand up but Souza isn't so interested in that idea.
Souza won't allow Knight to sweep him here.
Souza works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Nice strikes from Souza there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Knight misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Souza darts in and clinches Knight up against the cage.

Souza breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Knight forces Souza back against the cage and clinches.
A head punch on the inside from Knight fails to land.
Knight jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Souza walks away with a smile on his face. Knight gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Souza tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Knight just stands there and leans against the cage.
Knight stops a takedown attempt from Souza.

Souza has Knight pressed against the cage, preventing Knight from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Souza works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Souza slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Souza stands up over Knight, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Souza scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Knight lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Souza is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Souza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Knight is aware though and is defending well.

Kiro Souza overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Knight wants to stand but Souza has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Souza manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Knight manages to get himself to full guard.

Souza tries to clinch but Knight moves away
and Knight counters with a two punch combo.
Knight tries to clinch but Souza moves out of range.
Knight throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Souza perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Souza is looking to take a break and control but Knight is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Souza moves into full mount! Knight won't be happy about that!
Souza cracks Knight with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Knight's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kiro Souza will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Souza looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Souza stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Knight to get to his feet.
Souza is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Knight can do to turn this around?

Knight has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Knight manages to break the clinch.
Knight shoots in looking for a takedown. Souza tries to sprawl out of it but Knight keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Souza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Knight takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Souza wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
No joy there for Knight, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Souza is on top in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Knight throws a leg kick
and Souza counters with a one-two to the body.
Knight misses with a wild combination.
Souza slips a straight right by Knight.

Souza moves into the clinch successfully.
Knight tries to pull guard but Souza forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Kiro Souza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dyson Knight.

Souza pulls guard successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Souza looking for subs off his back but Knight has passed one foot through into half guard.
Souza makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Souza.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kiro Souza showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Souza, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
