PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Truman Underwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Whaley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Whaley's choice of entrance music: Drowning Pool - Tear Away. Bobby Whaley will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Truman Underwood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bobby Whaley!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whaley misses with a double jab.
Underwood shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Whaley defends it nicely.
Whaley looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Whaley darts in and clinches Underwood up against the cage.

Underwood wants the takedown. Whaley is fighting it off but Underwood persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Whaley's guard against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Underwood is stalling in the full guard.
Underwood has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Underwood gets to his feet - Whaley follows without any prompting.

Underwood scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Underwood is taking a breather. Whaley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Underwood in particular looking to stall.

Underwood seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Whaley for as long as he can get away with.

Whaley tries a head kick but it misses.
Bobby Whaley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Whaley closes the distance and clinches.
Whaley is pressed up against the cage. Underwood has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Whaley down to the mat. Whaley avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Underwood dives in for a single leg takedown but Whaley sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Underwood gets the takedown into side control.

Underwood has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Underwood tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Whaley swivels and escapes.
Whaley tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Underwood takes the fight into the clinch.

Whaley trying to control the position but instead, Underwood has worked for underhooks and has pushed Whaley into the cage.

Whaley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Underwood shoots in for a double leg but Whaley sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Underwood drops down looking for an ankle pick but Whaley pulls his leg out and moves away.

Underwood closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Whaley's guard.

Underwood stands up and waves to Whaley to follow him.
Whaley throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Underwood appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Whaley gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Whaley gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Underwood regains guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Underwood lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Underwood throwing strikes but missing.
Whaley can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Underwood controls the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Underwood shoots in but Whaley avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
No luck for Underwood with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Whaley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Underwood changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Whaley tries to avoid it but Underwood manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Whaley to the ground. Whaley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Underwood shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Whaley sprawls well. Whaley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Underwood gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Underwood throws a combination. Whaley tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Underwood closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Whaley manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Underwood changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Whaley looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Underwood cracks Whaley with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Underwood stands up and beckons Whaley to his feet.

Whaley tries to sprawl but Underwood drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Underwood is controlling the pace.
Underwood's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Underwood lands with a punch from half guard.

Truman Underwood overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Underwood looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
