PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bucksaw Anstey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spartacus Halo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spartacus Halo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bucksaw Anstey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Spartacus Halo!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halo misses with a double jab.
Halo attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Anstey slaps away a takedown attempt from Halo, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Anstey changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Halo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Anstey sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Anstey ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Anstey half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Halo loads up on a big right hand but Anstey slips the punch.
Anstey drops down looking for a counter takedown but Halo sprawls and moves away.
A shot to the liver by Halo. Beautiful body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halo throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Anstey counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Halo has his hands on Anstey's head, controlling the position.

Halo looking for subs off his back but Anstey has passed one foot through into half guard.

Halo throwing hammer fists to the chest of Anstey. What's that going to do exactly?
Halo tries to hold on but Anstey postures up.
Halo has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Anstey not allowing Halo to control his hands.

Anstey decides to get back to his feet. A strange decision but one that the crowd certainly appreciate.
Halo swinging wildly here.
Halo dips to his left and cracks Anstey with an uppercut!
Anstey walks into a left hand.
Halo misses with a body shot.
Anstey drops down looking for a counter takedown but Halo sprawls and moves away.
Halo jabbing away but nothing is landing.

and Anstey counters with a shoot takedown. Halo fights it but they end up in guard.

Halo working a defensive guard but Anstey passes into half guard.
Halo wants to get back to full guard.
Anstey wants to get back to his feet.

Anstey stands up out of the half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Halo throws out a powerful jab.


It looks like Bucksaw Anstey has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Halo throws out a loose jab but Anstey uses good head movement to avoid it.
Halo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Anstey counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Halo!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bucksaw Anstey will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Halo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Halo throws a lazy right hand but Anstey sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Halo throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Anstey.
Halo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Halo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Anstey, pushing him back against the cage.
Halo misses with a punch to the body.
Anstey drops down looking for an ankle pick but Halo pulls his leg out and moves away.
Halo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Halo throws a good cross that connects.
Halo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Anstey counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Halo is controlling Anstey's posture.
Halo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Anstey wants to stand and escape but Halo is having none of it.
Halo throws a strike but Anstey rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Halo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Anstey dives into side control.
Halo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Halo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Halo is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Halo is working for a kimura but Anstey is defending it quite comfortably.
Halo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Halo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Anstey's head.

Halo wants to control but Anstey is keeping him busy.

Halo wants to pass to mount but Anstey is defending the position.
Halo with the ground and pound but Anstey uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Halo wants to control from the top but Anstey keeps moving.
Halo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Anstey wants to stand and escape but Halo is having none of it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Anstey pushes Halo off and scrambles back to his feet.

Halo misses with a few strikes there.
Halo throws a half hearted mid kick.
Anstey attempts a counter takedown but Halo avoids it well and moves away.
Halo shoots for a takedown but Anstey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Halo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Anstey was well out of range. Poor timing from Halo.

Halo closes the distance and clinches.
Halo misses with the head strike.
Anstey is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Halo pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Anstey is trying to drag Halo to the mat but Halo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bucksaw Anstey. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Spartacus Halo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Halo misses with a two punch combination.
Halo lands with a hook. Anstey tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Halo scores with a nice right hand.
Halo connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Spartacus Halo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Anstey walks forward, straight into a front kick from Halo.
Halo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Halo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Anstey moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Halo. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

I wouldn't like to be where Halo is right now.

Spartacus Halo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Halo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Spartacus Halo made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Bucksaw Anstey was interviewed post fight and said 'Thanks for the chance to show the world what I'm capable of. Tonight wasn't my night but I'll come back better next time.'.
