PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Hernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Arias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arias has chosen we will find a way as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Pablo Hernandez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pablo Hernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raphael Arias!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arias shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hernandez but Hernandez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Arias dives in and grabs Hernandez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hernandez pushes down on Arias's head and hops out.
Hernandez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Arias shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hernandez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Hernandez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hernandez tries to get out of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arias postures up in Hernandez's guard and throws a big left but Hernandez blocks it.

Arias got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hernandez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Arias has managed to get both his arms back between Hernandez's legs - danger averted.

Hernandez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hernandez shoots in for a double leg but Arias sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Arias closes the distance and clinches up with Hernandez, looking for a takedown. Arias pushes Hernandez against the cage but Hernandez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Arias lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hernandez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Arias takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hernandez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Arias is working away from the top position though.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raphael Arias dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Hernandez has closed the distance and engaged Arias in a clinch.
Arias wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hernandez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Arias to keep the fight standing.

Arias blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Arias is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hernandez is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hernandez has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close second round but I would say that Pablo Hernandez will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hernandez wants to stand but Arias is controlling his posture from full guard.

Arias throws a chopping leg kick but Hernandez manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Arias enables Hernandez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Arias manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Arias throws a series of strikes that have Hernandez backpedaling.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hernandez shoots for a double leg takedown but Arias sprawls well. He's pushed Hernandez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And Arias tries to counter it with a takedown but Hernandez pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Arias fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hernandez, pushing him back against the cage.

Hernandez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hernandez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hernandez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Arias swats him away and circles back towards the center.

And that's the end of the fight!
Raphael Arias comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Arias has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
