The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kenny shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Higgins napping and manages to drive through into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kenny tries to score with some ground and pound. Higgins controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Kenny is looking to take a break and control but Higgins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Higgins is looking for a sweep.
Kenny prevents Higgins from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kenny decides to stand up, so the ref orders Higgins to his feet.
Kenny throws a head kick but Higgins moves out of range.
Higgins seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Dessy Kenny seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kenny feints and as Higgins raises his hands in defense, Kenny changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Higgins is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kenny is aware though and is defending well.

Kenny stands up and waves to Higgins to follow him.

Kenny breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kenny turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Higgins appears to be looking for a big counter.

Kenny fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Higgins sprawls well initially but Kenny persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Higgins manages to escape and get back to his feet!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Higgins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kenny rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Higgins moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

A slapping leg kick lands for Kenny.

Kenny has Higgins up against the cage in a clinch.
Higgins is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kenny to keep the fight standing.
Higgins jumps guard but Kenny turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shirley Higgins. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
You can see the frustration on Kenny's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kenny throws a leg kick but Higgins moved away.
As Kenny looks to move away, Higgins throws a big counter combo but Kenny just gets out of the way.
Higgins looks for the body kick but Kenny saw that one coming.
Kenny throws a head kick that misses.
Higgins fails to land the takedown.

Kenny shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kenny showed some decent athleticism there.

Higgins takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Kenny's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
