PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Devon Bailey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timothy McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGee is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Invaders must die - The prodigy. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Devon Bailey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Timothy McGee!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGee scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
McGee misses with a head kick.
An attempted straight right counter from Bailey misses the target.
Bailey throws a body punch but McGee moves out of range.
McGee bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bailey's head.


It looks like Devon Bailey has been cut.
Bailey has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Wild Card in the buildup to the fight.
McGee throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bailey stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

McGee shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGee wants to control from the top but Bailey keeps moving.
Bailey pulls McGee in close to his closed guard and prevents McGee from doing any damage or advancing position.
McGee trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bailey manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

McGee pulls Bailey in to control the position.
McGee not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
McGee looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

McGee wants to hit a switch here but Bailey passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for McGee there!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGee is working to get back to half guard.
Bailey content just to control the position here.
McGee sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

McGee is looking for a sweep. Bailey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bailey perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
McGee trying to control from the bottom.
McGee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McGee is still trying to improve position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
McGee is trying to maintain the position but Bailey is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
McGee cracks Bailey with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
McGee lands with a nice body punch.
McGee ducks under a wild hook from Bailey.
Bailey takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Bailey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McGee moves away.
Bailey swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bailey lands an overhand right.

Devon Bailey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McGee throws a sloppy body shot
and Bailey counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
McGee throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bailey on the side of the head.
McGee punishes Bailey's body with a nice straight punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGee fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

McGee closes the distance and pushes Bailey back into the cage.
Bailey goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
McGee lands with a left to the head.
Bailey misses with a hook from the clinch.

McGee sizes up Bailey with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
McGee fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
McGee moves away from the strike by Bailey.
McGee uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bailey.
Bailey attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Bailey thows a left - swing and a miss!
McGee dives in and grabs Bailey's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bailey pushes down on McGee's head and hops out.
McGee shoots for a takedown but Bailey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Bailey is looking to counter punch.
Devon Bailey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timothy McGee.
Bailey swings for the body but McGee moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGee scores with a nice head shot.

and McGee finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
McGee tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bailey is able to avoid easily.
McGee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McGee throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Bailey counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Bailey throws a poor cross that misses
and McGee counters with a stiff right hand.
Bailey throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
McGee moves out of range of the strikes.

and McGee counters with a nice double leg into guard.
McGee controls from within his opponent's guard.
McGee passes Bailey's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
McGee seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Timothy McGee has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bailey wants to get back to full guard.

Bailey has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McGee is working away from the top position though.
McGee thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McGee looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bailey with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGee wants to pass to mount but Bailey is defending the position.
McGee throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
McGee sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bailey defending well though.
McGee missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
McGee looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

McGee not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. McGee connects with a nice short shot to Bailey's temple.

McGee is nestled in close to Bailey, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

McGee looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

McGee throwing shots but Bailey is blocking nicely.
McGee drops an elbow to the side of Bailey's head.

McGee is trying to control the action in half guard but Bailey is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Timothy McGee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Bailey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McGee moves away.
McGee throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A jab from Bailey finds it's way through McGee's defenses.
McGee throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

McGee has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Bailey tries a low kick but McGee avoids it.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by McGee.
McGee displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bailey throws out the jab.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bailey missing with a left hand there. McGee was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McGee slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bailey takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Good leg kick by McGee there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Bailey throws a looping overhand right but McGee ducks down to avoid it.
Bailey takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.


Devon Bailey's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Bailey misses with a shot to the body
and McGee connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McGee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bailey but Bailey pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bailey moves out of range as McGee strikes.

Bailey keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Devon Bailey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Timothy McGee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bailey throws a jab but it's blocked by McGee.
McGee cracks the inside of Bailey's front leg.
Bailey keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Bailey takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
McGee scores with a jab. Bailey acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

McGee is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
McGee turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Bailey takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
McGee connects with an inside leg kick.
Bailey just misses with a punch to the body.
Bailey takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Bailey throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McGee sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and McGee counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bailey has his feet on McGee's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
McGee lands a nice shot that snaps Bailey's head back.
McGee thumps Bailey with a low kick.
McGee scores with a nice body kick.
McGee moves away from the strike by Bailey.
Bailey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McGee was well out of range. Poor timing from Bailey.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bailey takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Bailey will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.

McGee shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
McGee perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Bailey is not content to let McGee control the position.
McGee seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Let's hope that McGee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Timothy McGee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got McGee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
