Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Goku Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Goku Son!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Griffin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Son's half guard.

Griffin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Son moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Griffin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Son manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Griffin has Son in his guard.


Griffin looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Son has picked Griffin up and slammed him! Griffin can't keep hold of the triangle and Son manages to pass to side control!

Son tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Son will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griffin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Son wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Griffin, who protects the arm well.
Griffin is looking to reverse the position.

Griffin is looking for a sweep. Son is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Son not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Griffin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Griffin.

Griffin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Son defends well.

Griffin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Son stacks Griffin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Son!
Son wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working.
Griffin tries to bench press Son off him but Son keeps the position.
Griffin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Son wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working.

Son gets to mount! Griffin was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Son tries to control but Griffin wriggling away.
Griffin can't escape the position.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Son enables Griffin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Son manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Griffin throws a big right hand that misses.
Son trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Griffin has gone for a leg lock! Son slips out almost immediately though and dives into Griffin's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Griffin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Son avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Son wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Griffin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Griffin thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Griffin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Griffin is working for a kimura here but Son manages to reverse the position and he's now in Griffin's guard.
Griffin is striking from the bottom but Son uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Griffin is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Son jumps into side control!
Goku Son overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Griffin is looking for a sweep.
Griffin dodges the ground and pound from Son.
Son blocks the strikes from Griffin.
Griffin is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Son's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Son wants to take a breather but Griffin is having none of it.

Son seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Griffin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Griffin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Griffin tries to get to full guard but Son has control of the leg.
Griffin misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Griffin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Griffin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Griffin tries to roll over but Son keeps him under control.

A close second round but Ben Griffin will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Son keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Son tries for a takedown but Griffin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Son instigates a clinch.
Son is pressed up against the cage. Griffin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Son down to the mat. Son avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Son shoots in but Griffin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Griffin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Son defends well and Griffin ends up having to push Son into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
As Griffin tries to get set, Son tries to push him back and clinch up but Griffin manages to avoid the attempt.
Goku Son has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Griffin.
Griffin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Son sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Son gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Griffin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Son looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Son looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Son!

Son is looking to work his way around to Griffin's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Goku Son showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Son has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
