The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Akiyama misses

and Reynolds decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Akiyama's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Akiyama can do anything to dispel that myth.

Reynolds is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Reynolds postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Reynolds drops back looking for a leg! Akiyama is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Akiyama manages to kick Reynolds off! Reynolds jumps back into Akiyama's guard.
Reynolds tries to free his leg and advance position but Akiyama is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reynolds stays in close to Akiyama's body and controls the position.

Reynolds's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Akiyama really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reynolds. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Reynolds throws a big right hand that misses.

Reynolds connects with a couple of short punches.
Reynolds postures up and lands a big shot to Akiyama's brow.

Reynolds throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Akiyama works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Reynolds has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reynolds accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reynolds controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Reynolds drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Reynolds as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Akiyama screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Reynolds! Nice submission victory there!
