PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fist Of Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Will (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fist Of Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tony Will!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel doesn't manage to clinch there - Will circles away.
Steel avoids the head kick by Will.
Steel closes the distance looking to clinch

and Will counters with a takedown into side control.
Will advances to mount.
Will takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Will is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Will dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Will misses with a kick to the body.
Steel circles away from the clinch attempt.
Steel connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Will momentarily.


It looks like Tony Will has been cut.
Fist Of Steel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Will changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Steel looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Will stands up and beckons Steel to his feet.
Will attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A head kick misses from Will.
Steel tries to counter with a takedown but Will is quick to defend against it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Will blocking some punches.
Will struggles to land a body shot inside as Steel controls his hands.

Will manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steel defending well as Will loads up on a big left hand.
Steel moves in looking to clinch but Will pushes him off.
Will pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Will manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Steel on his heels. He'll look to pass Steel's guard now, I'm sure.

Will stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Steel uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Will has time to react.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Will.
Steel is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Steel tries to clinch up.

Will shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Steel is trying to defend but Will finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Will throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Will controlling the pace.
Steel avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Will.
Will is taking a breather. Steel says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Will's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Steel wants to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Steel takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Will scores with a head kick.

Will closes the distance and pushes Steel back into the cage.

Will breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Will drives through and clinches with Steel against the cage.
Steel throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Will blocks it with crossed arms.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Steel.

Will breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Will swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Steel.
Steel tries to clinch but Will is having none of it.

Steel gets tackled into the cage by Will. Will maintains the clinch.
Will wants to take the fight to the mat but Steel manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Will tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Steel avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Will showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Tony Will's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Will moves into the clinch.
Will fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Steel fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Steel has a couple of punches blocked by Will.
Will goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Will's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Will breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters circling a little - Will finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Will misses with a body kick.
Steel tries to counter with a takedown but Will is quick to defend against it.
Will throws a quick inside leg kick.
Steel cracks Will with an open hand slap.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Will pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tony Will seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Will tries a head kick but it misses.
Will goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Will avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Steel moves out of range of the body kick from Will.

Will clinches up against the cage.
Will tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Steel smiles and moves away.
Fist Of Steel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Steel doesn't manage to clinch there - Will circles away.
Will swats away the attempt to clinch by Steel.
Will tries to clinch up but Steel circles away and keeps his distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Will chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Will tries for a takedown but Steel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Fist Of Steel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Will.
Will misses with a head kick.
Will throws a head kick that misses.

Will closes the distance and pushes Steel back into the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Steel prevents a body shot from Will.
Steel with a knee to the head.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Will has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Steel lands a hook that snaps the head of Will backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Will breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Steel fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Will throws a right and a left that Steel avoids nicely.
Steel changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Steel swats away the attempt to clinch by Will.
Steel appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Will looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Steel is trying to escape back to his feet but Will uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Steel trying to remain calm as Will controls from the top position.
More stalling from Will.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Will decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Will tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Steel moves to clinch but Will breaks away

and Will counters with a nice double leg into side control. Steel won't be happy with that.
Steel bucks up and tries to throw Will off but instead Will has got his back!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Will controlling the position well here. Steel rolled but Will kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Tony Will is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tony Will comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Will has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
