PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rob Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rene Renard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rene Renard told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson lands with a slapping head kick.
Renard tries to clinch but Jackson is having none of it.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Jackson. Renard shrugs it off though.
Renard closes the distance but Jackson moves to the side
and Jackson counters with a two punch combo.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses.

and Renard counters by moving into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson misses with a punch on the inside.
Renard tries to pull guard but Jackson won't allow it.

Renard drags the fight down to the ground.

and Jackson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Renard blocks a head kick by Jackson.
Renard was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Jackson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Renard moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Renard as he avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jackson connects with a high kick.
Rob Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Renard closes the distance and pushes Jackson back into the cage.
Renard jumps guard but Jackson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jackson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Renard fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

so Renard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Jackson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Renard has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Renard pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Renard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jackson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Renard controls the pace.
Renard wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jackson is controlling Renard's posture.

Renard slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Renard tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard.
Renard looking to sit in guard and control but Jackson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Renard is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Renard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Renard is trying to control the action in half guard but Jackson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rob Jackson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Jackson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Renard gets a clinch.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jackson throws the kick towards the body but Renard avoids it.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Renard but Renard pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Renard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
