Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Lowery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Waugh!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Winston Howard and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lowery closes the distance and clinches up with Waugh, looking for a takedown. Lowery pushes Waugh against the cage but Waugh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Waugh gets a clinch.
Lowery is trying to maintain a safe position but Waugh gets an underhook and turns Lowery into the cage.

Waugh manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Lowery drops back, looking for a kneebar! Waugh looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Waugh looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Waugh!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waugh scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lowery to see if he's OK.

Waugh decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Lowery fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Waugh closes the distance and clinches.
A frustrated look appears on Waugh's face as he tries to break the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Lowery.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Waugh.
Lowery is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Lowery. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lowery trying to control the position but instead, Waugh has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lowery into the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Waugh lands a takedown into guard.

Lowery is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Waugh presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Waugh successfully pulls guard.
Lowery missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Waugh is looking to stand up but Lowery isn't so interested in that idea.
Lowery loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Lowery throwing strikes from guard but Waugh blocks nicely.

Lowery is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Lowery working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice body punch from Waugh.

Waugh rushes Lowery and presses him up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Waugh manages to pull guard.

Lowery postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Waugh is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lowery, into his guard.

Waugh looking to sit in guard and control but Lowery gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lowery decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Waugh, up you get!
Waugh has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Waugh lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Dave Lowery has been cut.

Waugh clinches up against the cage.
Lowery trying to control the position but instead, Waugh has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lowery into the cage.
Waugh gets underhooks to prevent Lowery's takedown attempt.
Lowery is breathing heavily.

Waugh drags the fight down to the ground.
Lowery missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lowery decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Waugh throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Lowery counters with a body kick that stops Waugh in his tracks momentarily.

Waugh bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Waugh lands a decent elbow from side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lowery manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Waugh lands a big elbow - Lowery is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Waugh!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Waugh!
