EPL 10 - Week 6 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Abraham Donowitz and Vinny Hopkins. Donowitz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is JEW FLOW. Hopkins has chosen Manny Pacquiao - Lalaban Ako as his entrance music. Abraham Donowitz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the featherweight division.

The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Hopkins does no damage.
Hopkins just misses with a punch to the body.
Donowitz changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Hopkins throws a looping overhand right but Donowitz ducks down to avoid it.
We've been hearing reports that Donowitz has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Hopkins bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
A slow jab from Hopkins misses its intended target.
Hopkins cracks Donowitz with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Hopkins ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Donowitz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hopkins is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hopkins is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Donowitz asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hopkins tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Donowitz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hopkins tries to roll over but Donowitz keeps him under control.
Hopkins is refusing to be controlled, as Donowitz sits in half guard.
Donowitz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Donowitz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hopkins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Donowitz.

Hopkins has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Donowitz is working away from the top position though.
Donowitz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hopkins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Donowitz is just content to waste time from the top position. Hopkins takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Donowitz wants to control from the top but Hopkins keeps moving.

Hopkins takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Hopkins regains half guard there - taking advantage of Donowitz's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Hopkins wants to control but Donowitz is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Donowitz prevents Hopkins from standing back up.

Hopkins is pressing down on Donowitz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hopkins holds on and takes a little breather.

Hopkins pulls Donowitz in close to prevent any damage.
Donowitz content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Hopkins's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Donowitz catches Hopkins with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Donowitz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hopkins sprawls well. Hopkins wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Donowitz gets slowly back to his feet.
Hopkins darts in trying to clinch
and Donowitz counters with a nice uppercut.

Donowitz appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hopkins wants to counter with a clinch but Donowitz pushes him away.
Hopkins throws a jab but it's blocked by Donowitz.

And that's the end of the fight!
Abraham Donowitz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Donowitz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Vinny Hopkins spoke after the fight, saying 'As always I can do everything through Christ my lord and savior who strengthens me. Without him I wouldn't be here tonight. Don't worry I'll be back.'.
