Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Masters!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Covalev closes the distance and pushes Masters back into the cage.
Covalev wants to break the clinch but can't.

Covalev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Masters shoots in for a double leg but Covalev sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Covalev misses with the combination.
Covalev fails with a takedown attempt.
Masters shoots and misses
and Covalev counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Masters tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
As Masters backs away, Covalev returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Covalev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Masters defends it nicely.
Covalev tries to bum rush Masters with a series of wild strikes but Masters uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Masters gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Covalev is looking to clinch.
Masters steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Covalev.
Nice uppercut there from Covalev.

Covalev has closed the distance and engaged Masters in a clinch.
Masters prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sergey Covalev. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Masters fails to pull guard.
Masters tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Masters manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Covalev not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Masters controls Covalev momentarily but Covalev frees himself.
Covalev trying to control the position from guard on top but Masters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Covalev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Covalev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Covalev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Masters on the ground.
Covalev wants to pass the guard but Masters is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Covalev closes the distance and clinches up with Masters, looking for a takedown. Covalev pushes Masters against the cage but Masters circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Masters leaves Covalev with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Covalev has taken the fight to the clinch.
Masters fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Masters is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Covalev to keep the fight standing.
Covalev prevents the takedown attempt.
Masters looking to slow down the pace here.
Covalev wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Masters lands a takedown into guard.

Covalev scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Covalev shoots in looking for a takedown. Masters tries to sprawl out of it but Covalev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Masters manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Masters is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Masters closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Masters drags the fight down to the ground.
Masters throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Covalev slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sergey Covalev dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No luck for Masters with that takedown attempt.
Covalev shoots in looking for a takedown but Masters manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Covalev's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Covalev shoots for a double leg takedown but Masters sprawls well. He's pushed Covalev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Covalev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Covalev lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Masters looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Masters working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Covalev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Covalev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Masters is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Masters thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Masters tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Masters is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Covalev is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Tommy Masters has got the better of the ground game so far.

Masters is trying for a kimura here. Covalev looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Masters wins by kimura!
