PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Paul Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Rembrandt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rembrandt is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "We will rock you" by Queen. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Corey Rembrandt!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rembrandt fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Johnson to the ground. Rembrandt is now in Johnson's guard.
Rembrandt looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Johnson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rembrandt defends well.
Johnson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Johnson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rembrandt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Johnson trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rembrandt controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Let's hope that Rembrandt has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johnson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Johnson looks for a takedown but Rembrandt sprawls well.

Rembrandt shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Johnson is trying to defend but Rembrandt finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rembrandt looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like Rembrandt might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Rembrandt tries to stand but can't do so whilst Johnson controls his leg.
Rembrandt perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Johnson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rembrandt is continuing to stall.
Johnson wants to control but Rembrandt is keeping busy.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rembrandt tries to pass to full mount but Johnson defends it.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rembrandt in particular looking to stall.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Rembrandt.

That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Johnson tries to clinch up.

Rembrandt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rembrandt stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Paul Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Rembrandt circles away and keeps his distance.
Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Johnson shoots for a takedown but Rembrandt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rembrandt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rembrandt pushes down on Johnson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Rembrandt content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Johnson is looking to control Rembrandt's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?

Rembrandt tries to stand but can't do so whilst Johnson controls his leg.

Rembrandt moves into full mount! Johnson won't be happy about that!
Johnson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Johnson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Rembrandt tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
You get the feeling that Johnson really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Rembrandt controlling the pace for now.
Rembrandt's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The adventures of Rembrandt the control monster continue. Boring.
Johnson tries to lock up and control but Rembrandt gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Johnson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Corey Rembrandt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


No luck for Johnson with that takedown attempt.
Johnson doesn't manage to clinch there - Rembrandt circles away.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Rembrandt sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Johnson scores with a body shot.
Rembrandt has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rembrandt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Johnson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rembrandt passes the guard and advances to mount!
Rembrandt takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Corey Rembrandt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rembrandt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
