PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Craven Morehead (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Shine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Craven Morehead!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Shine!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shine lands the left hand.
Morehead just misses with a punch to the body.
Shine shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Morehead eats them both and turns towards Shine to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Morehead misses with a head kick.
Shine throws a nice looking combination but Morehead bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Morehead misses with a body shot
and Shine counters with a left and a right that stings Morehead.


Morehead is rocked!
Shine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Morehead paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shine is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Morehead throwing a counter right hand but Shine manages to avoid it.
Shine checks a leg kick.

Morehead gets a takedown into half guard.
Morehead really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Morehead throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Morehead seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Morehead trying to control the action but Shine is working from the bottom.

Morehead is working for a submission of some sort.
Shine moves into full guard.
Morehead will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Shine is trying to keep Morehead in close.
Shine tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Morehead trying to control the position from guard on top but Shine is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Morehead trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Morehead throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Morehead is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Morehead looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Morehead lands a couple of elbows.
Morehead trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Morehead trying to control but Shine is working from the bottom.
Shine looking for a sweep. Not yet Shine, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Morehead takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Morehead drops his hands momentarily and Shine takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Morehead misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shine enables Morehead to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shine manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Morehead postures up and lands a big shot to Shine's brow.
Shine has Morehead pulled in close to control his posture.
Shine wants to sweep but no luck.
Shine is looking to stand up but Morehead isn't so interested in that idea.

Shine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Morehead is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shine keeping moving, preventing Morehead from controlling successfully.
Shine wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Morehead trying to control but Shine is working from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Morehead lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shine is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Morehead is controlling him.
Morehead is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ivan Shine will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Shine tries to clinch there but Morehead circles away.
Morehead scores with a nice right hand.
Shine takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Shine connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Morehead misses with a double jab
and Shine counters with a left and a right that stings Morehead.
Morehead misses with a jab to the body
and Shine counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Oh Morehead is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Shine explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Shine is looking to clinch.
Morehead misses with a kick to the body.
Morehead seems to have got his legs back now.
Morehead shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shine as he jumps to the side.
Shine bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shine scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Craven Morehead is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Morehead shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shine but Shine pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Shine is looking to clinch.
Morehead appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Morehead shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Morehead missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Craven Morehead overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shine looks like he's trying to stand up.
Shine is looking for a sweep. Morehead is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Morehead stalling.

Shine is looking to improve his position.
Morehead is pressing down on Shine's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shine is holding on for now.
Shine looks like he's trying to stand up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Morehead performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Morehead avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice uppercut lands for Shine. That snapped Morehead's head back.
Morehead misses with a right hand
and Morehead takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Shine has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Morehead avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shine takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Shine tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Morehead manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Morehead throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Shine slips under a jab from Morehead.

Morehead closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shine to the mat! Shine manages to get full guard.
Morehead wants to control from the top but Shine keeps moving.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Shine manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Morehead drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Shine gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craven Morehead. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shine lands a left hand that snaps the head of Morehead backwards.
Shine has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shine lands a nice knee to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shine lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Shine tries to land knees in the clinch but Morehead avoids the damage to the body.
Morehead is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Morehead avoiding damage as Shine throws knees to the body.

Morehead breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Shine moves into the clinch successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Shine showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Shine fails with an attempt to clinch.

Morehead closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shine quickly recovers to half guard.
Morehead trying to pass the guard but Shine defending well.
Shine is pressing down on Morehead's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Morehead won't allow Shine to get back to his feet.
Shine keeping moving, preventing Morehead from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Morehead not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Shine looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Morehead stops Shine from standing up.

Shine tries to clinch but Morehead is having none of it.
Morehead throws a lazy head kick
and Shine counters with a nice uppercut.
Ivan Shine is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Morehead misses with a looping left.
Morehead fails with a takedown attempt.
Shine tries to close the distance and clinch up but Morehead swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Morehead swinging wildly here.
Shine looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Morehead ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shine moves away.
Shine throws a counter combo.
Shine throws a right and a left that Morehead avoids nicely.
It looked like Morehead was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Shine.
Shine throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Morehead swats away the attempt to clinch by Shine.
Morehead attempts a counter takedown but Shine avoids it well and moves away.
Craven Morehead has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Shine is looking to clinch but Morehead is avoiding it.

Shine rushes Morehead and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Morehead wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Morehead jumps guard but Shine turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Shine misses with a punch on the inside.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Morehead wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Morehead tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Shine just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craven Morehead. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shine throws a punch but it's blocked by Morehead.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shine prevents a takedown attempt there.
Shine landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Morehead managing to block the knees to the body from Shine.
Shine throws a punch but it's blocked by Morehead.
Shine keeps control of Morehead as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Morehead goes for a takedown attempt but Shine pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Morehead throws a body punch but Shine moves out of range.
Despite the aggression on Shine's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Ivan Shine is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Shine lands a head shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ivan Shine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Shine winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
