Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cary Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antony Mayson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cary Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antony Mayson!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mayson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patterson's guard.

Mayson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Patterson throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Mayson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Patterson's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mayson lands a nice short elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mayson connects with a nice short shot to Patterson's temple.

Mayson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Patterson has managed to free his arm - good work.

Patterson is not content to let Mayson control the position.
Patterson really is a fat lump.
Mayson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Patterson throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Mayson manages to pass to side control.
Mayson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patterson keeps working.
Patterson tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Mayson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Patterson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Mayson throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Patterson tries to escape but Mayson has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Mayson scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Patterson is looking for a way out.
Patterson wants to escape the position.
Can Patterson hold on?! Mayson is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Patterson trying to get back to his feet but Mayson is in full control for now.

Mayson tightening his grip on Patterson, looking for the choke.
Mayson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Patterson is really stuck here.

Mayson is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Patterson is trying to shake Mayson off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Mayson won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mayson tries to clinch but Patterson moves out of range.
Mayson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patterson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mayson clinches up with Patterson and pushes him back against the cage.
Mayson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mayson prevents the takedown attempt.

Patterson manages to break the clinch.

Mayson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Patterson to the ground. Mayson is now in Patterson's guard.
Patterson is looking to stand back up but Mayson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Patterson.

Antony Mayson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mayson content to control rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mayson moves nicely into side control.

The referee asks Mayson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mayson prefers to stall for the moment though.
Patterson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
You can see the frustration on Patterson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mayson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Patterson to his feet.
Antony Mayson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mayson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Patterson quickly recovers to half guard.

Mayson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Mayson is just content to waste time from the top position. Patterson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Mayson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Patterson, up you get!
Cary Patterson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Patterson clinches up with Mayson and pushes him back against the cage.

Mayson has picked Patterson up - he's going for a ride! Mayson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Patterson has one foot on Mayson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Mayson is breathing heavily.

Patterson gets caught flat footed, as Mayson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mayson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mayson working the strikes but Patterson uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Patterson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mayson.

Patterson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mayson pulls his head out easily.
Mayson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Mayson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Mayson is trying to control. Patterson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antony Mayson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Mayson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Patterson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Patterson tries to counter by clinching up but Mayson breaks away and moves out of range.

Patterson has his foot on Mayson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mayson works his way back into a safe position though.

Mayson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mayson wants the takedown. Patterson is fighting it off but Mayson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Patterson's guard against the cage.
Patterson wants to stand up but Mayson is controlling him.

Mayson stands and steps away. Patterson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mayson throws a hook but Patterson blocks it.
Patterson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Mayson.

Patterson throws a head kick that misses.
Mayson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Mayson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Patterson trying to control from the bottom.
Mayson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Patterson is trying to stand up here but Mayson is controlling him well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cary Patterson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Antony Mayson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
