Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick Willis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Willis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Willis.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
Willis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smith has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Willis shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well.
Smith throws out a loose jab but Willis uses good head movement to avoid it.
A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target.
Willis went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Smith fails to land with a series of punches.

Willis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smith napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Smith drops back, looking for a kneebar! Willis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Willis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Willis!

Willis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Willis tries to score with some ground and pound. Smith controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Smith can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Smith throws a lazy head kick
and Willis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
A big left from Smith misses.
Smith misses with an uppercut.
Willis drops down looking for a counter takedown but Smith sprawls and moves away.
Smith keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Willis's head backwards.
Smith dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Willis shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Willis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Willis is putting a hurting on Smith here, landing some big shots from side control.
Smith tries to buck Willis off but Willis is having none of it.
Willis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?

Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Willis is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.

Smith is pressing down on Willis's thigh, looking to free his foot. Willis is holding on for now.

Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith is looking to pass into half guard but Willis pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Willis is in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Smith cracks Willis with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Patrick Willis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith connects with a jab.
Willis gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Smith misses with a left hand

and Willis counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Smith!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Willis wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
Smith is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Willis off and has taken his back!
Well, with Smith on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Willis is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

A close second round but Chad Smith will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The crowd cheers as Smith lands an impressive looking overhand right. Willis doesn't seem phased though.

Smith catches Willis with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Willis forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Chad Smith!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Chad Smith waved his t-shirt featuring On Tap (160Q & Laundry)'s logo in front of the cameras.
