Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chance Birmbaum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rangi Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chance Birmbaum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rangi Smith!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Topper Green and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Birmbaum. Those never looked like landing.
Smith looks like he wants to counter punch here.

As Smith tries to get set, Birmbaum tries to push him back and clinch up but Smith manages to avoid the attempt.

It looks like Chance Birmbaum has been cut.
Birmbaum slips a straight right by Smith.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Birmbaum swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Rangi Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Smith tries to bum rush Birmbaum with a series of wild strikes but Birmbaum uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Birmbaum shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Smith is staying active underneath Birmbaum, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Birmbaum has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

That's time! Birmbaum's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Birmbaum shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smith sprawls well. Smith wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Birmbaum gets slowly back to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

BOOM! Smith connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Birmbaum is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back!
Chance Birmbaum overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Birmbaum has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Smith has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

You can see the frustration on Smith's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Birmbaum seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Smith's chin but Smith turns very nicely into Birmbaum's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Smith.
