Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenta Yuudai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Knope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kenta Yuudai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Knope!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knope tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Yuudai is able to avoid easily.

Yuudai shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Yuudai thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Knope's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yuudai seems to be looking for submissions.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Knope is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Yuudai is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Knope sees it coming and defends easily.

Yuudai seems to be working for a kimura but Knope defends the submission attempt.
Yuudai has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Knope keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Yuudai is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yuudai is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Knope pulls him back up using the underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuudai takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Yuudai is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Knope can do to turn this around?

Knope throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Knope uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Knope gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Kenta Yuudai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Knope must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Knope drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Yuudai dives on top into guard.

Yuudai sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Knope's guard.

Knope might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Yuudai haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Yuudai is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Knope is just riding it out for now. Yuudai eventually gives up the hold.

Yuudai is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Knope still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Knope has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yuudai tries to buck Knope off but Knope is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ben Knope will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Knope misses with an uppercut
and Yuudai counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Some wild striking there from Knope.
Knope pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Knope ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Yuudai tries to score a power double leg takedown but Knope sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yuudai somewhat.
Knope works Yuudai's body with a nice hook.

Yuudai takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Yuudai tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Knope defends well and Yuudai ends up having to push Knope into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Nice defenses there by Yuudai.
Yuudai was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Yuudai fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Yuudai lands the left hand.
Knope dips to his left and cracks Yuudai with an uppercut!
Knope throws a combination. Yuudai tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Knope wants to clinch.

Knope clinches up with Yuudai and pushes him back against the cage.
Knope tries to stall but Yuudai uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Yuudai turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Yuudai wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Knope, who protects the arm well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Knope is trying to control Yuudai's posture but Yuudai avoids it.

Yuudai goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Knope rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Yuudai's guard! Nice work there by Knope!

Knope stands up and waves to Yuudai to follow him.

Knope lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Knope.

Yuudai swats away the attempt to clinch by Knope.
Knope throws a body punch but Yuudai moves out of range.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Knope. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Yuudai shoots in for a takedown but Knope shows good takedown defense.
Nice takedown defense from Knope. No joy for Yuudai on that attempt.
Yuudai slips a jab and a cross from Knope.
Knope connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Yuudai momentarily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Knope keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Yuudai shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Knope lands an elbow inside.
Yuudai avoids the elbow strike from Knope, against the cage.
Knope lands a right hand.
Knope lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ben Knope comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Knope has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
