PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rob Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ayden Whitey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ayden Whitey was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rob Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ayden Whitey!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jackson circles away.
Jackson appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Jackson looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Whitey moves into the clinch.
Whitey stalls.
Whitey has Jackson pressed against the cage, preventing Jackson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Whitey wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Whitey is working for takedown but Jackson is calmly controlling the position for now.
Whitey has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Whitey has had enough of the clinch but Jackson keeps him there for the moment.
Whitey drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jackson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

A head kick from Jackson lands but Whitey takes it in his stride.
Jackson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Whitey dives in and grabs Jackson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jackson pushes down on Whitey's head and hops out.
Jackson thuds his shin into the meat of Whitey's side.
Whitey shoots in for a takedown but Jackson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jackson appears to be looking for a big counter.

Whitey throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Jackson stuffs the takedown.
Jackson seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Whitey misses with a takedown
and Jackson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Whitey tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Whitey somewhat.

Jackson tries a head kick but it misses.

Whitey doesn't manage to clinch there - Jackson circles away.
Jackson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jackson gets tackled into the cage by Whitey. Whitey maintains the clinch.
Whitey jumps guard but Jackson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jackson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jackson prevents Whitey from breaking the clinch.
Whitey has Jackson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jackson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Whitey lands an uppercut.
Whitey tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jackson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Jackson breaks from the clinch.
Whitey takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Whitey throws a head kick that misses
and Jackson counters with a one-two to the body.
Whitey connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Whitey shoots in for a takedown but Jackson shows good takedown defense.
Whitey tries for a takedown but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rob Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Whitey throws a sloppy head kick and Jackson moves out of range easily.

and Jackson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Whitey is looking for a triangle but Jackson pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Whitey wants to sweep here but Jackson controlling him for the moment.

Whitey escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Whitey looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jackson wants to control from the top but Whitey keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Whitey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jackson is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jackson circles away from the clinch attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Whitey is defended easily by Jackson.

and Jackson counters with a three punch combo that has Whitey backing up. Whitey nods at Jackson to acknowledge the strikes.
Whitey is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Whitey wants to break free but Jackson has control.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Whitey scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Whitey fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jackson avoids it really well and circles away.

Jackson fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Whitey has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Jackson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Whitey can do to turn this around?
Whitey tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jackson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Whitey clinches up with Jackson and pushes him back against the cage.

Jackson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Whitey pulls his leg out and moves away.
Whitey tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jackson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Whitey tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Whitey throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Jackson blocks it with crossed arms.
Jackson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Whitey is trying to pull guard but Jackson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Whitey is on top in guard.

Whitey gets to his feet - Jackson follows without any prompting.
Whitey wants to clinch.
Whitey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Whitey closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Whitey pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Whitey tries to clinch but Jackson is having none of it.

Whitey shoots in and drives through. Jackson sprawls well.
Jackson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jackson leaves Whitey with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Whitey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jackson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rob Jackson.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jackson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
