PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roderick Solo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Kurtz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roderick Solo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Walter Kurtz!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Solo walks into a stiff left hand from Kurtz.
Kurtz has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Solo is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Kurtz blocks a head kick by Solo.
Kurtz plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Kurtz lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kurtz explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Solo looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Solo takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Kurtz scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Kurtz jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kurtz scores with a kick to the midsection.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Solo takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A solid body kick from Kurtz.
Solo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Solo takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Kurtz thumps Solo with a low kick.
Solo takes one to the side of the head.
Solo checks the leg kick.
Kurtz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kurtz scores with a kick to the midsection.
Kurtz throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Solo's head.
Kurtz scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kurtz misses with a lunging right hand

and Solo counters with a crisp one two that drops Kurtz! Solo thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Kurtz to his feet! Kurtz is in big trouble!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Solo moves forwards but Kurtz connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Solo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kurtz.
Kurtz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Solo throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Kurtz counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Solo is looking to score with low kicks.
Kurtz follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Kurtz throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Solo throws a sloppy head kick and Kurtz moves out of range easily.
Kurtz takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Solo steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Kurtz. That one must have hurt.
Kurtz uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Solo has time to react.
Kurtz scores with a jab. Solo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Kurtz chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kurtz digs a good hook to Solo's body.
Kurtz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kurtz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Solo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Solo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Kurtz's jab looks to have found its range, popping Solo under the eye.
Kurtz throws a quick inside leg kick.
Solo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kurtz tries to land a front kick but Solo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kurtz is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Solo had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Kurtz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Solo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Good shot there by Kurtz.
Roderick Solo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Solo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Solo throws a sloppy head kick
and Kurtz counters with an outside leg kick.
Kurtz connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Solo momentarily.
Kurtz throws out a loose jab but Solo uses good head movement to avoid it.
An attempted straight right counter from Solo misses the target.
Walter Kurtz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kurtz thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Solo if he has to take too many more of those.
Kurtz misses with a body kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kurtz throws a leg kick which misses Solo's front leg but catches the back leg as Solo tries to avoid it.
Kurtz lands with a hook. Solo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walter Kurtz dominated that round.

Kurtz throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Walter Kurtz seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Kurtz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


It looks like Walter Kurtz has been cut.
Kurtz with a jab.
Kurtz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Solo.
Solo half committed to a counter leg kick.
A swing and a miss from Kurtz.
Kurtz feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Solo's calf.
Kurtz cracks Solo with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kurtz connects with a body shot that sends Solo's belly button to the back.

Kurtz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Solo was covering up waiting for the punch and Kurtz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Solo is wriggling around but Kurtz manages to pass to half guard.

Kurtz prevents Solo from standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kurtz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Solo is trying to stand up here but Kurtz is controlling him well.
Solo is in trouble now - Kurtz has advanced to mount!
Solo wants to try and get back to his feet.
Solo is trying desperately to improve position.

Kurtz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Solo is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Kurtz has taken his back.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Kurtz's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Kurtz is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Solo is defending well though. Kurtz let's go of the attempt for now.
Solo is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
