PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hilario Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jayant Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jayant Singh was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hilario Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jayant Singh!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Allen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Singh tries to counter with a clinch but Allen shakes him off and moves away.
Allen wants to clinch up but Singh keeps it at a distance.

Singh dives in and scores a takedown into Allen's guard.
Singh passes Allen's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Allen pushes Singh off looking to stand but Singh dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Singh perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Singh is looking for a kimura but Allen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Singh to get the leverage.
Allen is trying to get back to full guard.
Singh wants to pass to mount but Allen is defending the position.

Singh is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Allen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Singh seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Allen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Singh slips a nice elbow through Allen's hands, connecting with Allen's forehead.

It looks like Singh might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Singh lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Allen is looking to improve his position.
Allen has his hands clasped together around Singh's back. He's all about the action.

Let's hope that Singh has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Allen is in trouble now - Singh has advanced to mount!

and Singh counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Singh seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Singh throws a sloppy head kick and Allen moves out of range easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Allen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Singh shoots in and gets a takedown into Allen's guard.
Singh slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Allen keeping moving, preventing Singh from controlling successfully.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Singh moves into range and clinches up with Allen.

Singh drags the fight down to the ground.
Singh seems keen to control Allen's posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Singh is trying to keep Allen in close.

Singh has his foot on Allen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Allen works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jayant Singh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Allen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Singh throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Singh closes the distance and clinches.
Singh lands with a light punch inside.
Allen tries for a takedown. No joy.

Singh is trying to trip Allen. He has hold of a leg but Allen is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Singh persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Allen is pulling down on Singh's head. It's preventing any offense from Singh, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen wants to hit a switch here but Singh passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Allen there!

Singh moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Allen has worked his arm free - good work by Allen!

Allen tries to clinch but Singh moves out of range.

Singh rushes Allen and presses him up against the cage.

Singh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Allen fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Allen pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Singh shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Allen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Allen is working an open guard so Singh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Allen has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Singh is on him like a limpet, forcing Allen back against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Singh jumps guard and drags Allen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Singh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Allen is one step ahead there.

Hilario Allen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jayant Singh is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Jayant Singh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Singh has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
