PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ragnar Sigurdsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donald Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ragnar Sigurdsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Donald Evans!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Evans tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sigurdsson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Sigurdsson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Evans wants to clinch up but Sigurdsson keeps it at a distance.
Donald Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Evans doesn't manage to clinch there - Sigurdsson circles away.
Sigurdsson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sigurdsson looks to throw the jab but Evans is out of range.

Evans tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sigurdsson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Evans has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Evans cracks Sigurdsson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Evans has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sigurdsson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Evans is trying to control the position but Sigurdsson postures up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Evans holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Evans has his foot on Sigurdsson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sigurdsson works his way back into a safe position though.

Sigurdsson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Evans is keeping busy.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Donald Evans showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Evans tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sigurdsson smiles and moves away.

It looks like Ragnar Sigurdsson has been cut.
Sigurdsson lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Sigurdsson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Evans misses with a hook.

Evans closes the distance and pushes Sigurdsson back into the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Evans.
Evans trying to control the position but instead, Sigurdsson has worked for underhooks and has pushed Evans into the cage.
Sigurdsson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Evans turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Evans manages to end up in side control.

Sigurdsson is looking to regain half guard here but Evans keeps moving and retains side control.
Evans has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Evans swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Sigurdsson is now in Evans's guard. A big mistake from Evans there, giving up the dominant position!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sigurdsson stands up over Evans, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sigurdsson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Sigurdsson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Evans has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sigurdsson has managed to get both his arms back between Evans's legs - danger averted.

Sigurdsson pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Sigurdsson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Evans manages to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ragnar Sigurdsson.
I think Sigurdsson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
