PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeramy Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jota Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeramy Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jota Soares!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A good leg kick by Soares.
Soares darts in looking for a takedown but Charles gets double underhooks and turns Soares into the cage.

Soares rushes Charles and presses him up against the cage.

Charles has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Soares uses from the top position.
Soares slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Charles managing to control the position.
Charles being controlled here, momentarily.
Soares is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Soares is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soares is looking to stand up but Charles won't let him.
Soares not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Charles wants to sweep but no luck.
Charles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Soares controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Charles utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Charles is trying to control the position but Soares postures up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Charles can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Soares controls the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Soares lands a big head kick that sends Charles tumbling to the mat! Soares takes a step backwards and waves Charles back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Charles is rocked!


It looks like Jeramy Charles has been cut.

Soares closes the distance and pushes Charles back into the cage.

Soares pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Soares clinches with his opponent.
Charles could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Charles jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Soares walks away with a smile on his face. Charles gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Charles doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Soares counters by moving into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A left hand lands to the body for Soares.
Charles tries to pull guard but Soares won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeramy Charles. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Soares breaks from the clinch.
No luck for Charles with that takedown attempt.

Soares rushes Charles and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Charles jumps guard.
Soares's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Soares avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Charles is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Soares sitting in guard here, content to control.
Charles working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Soares.

Soares stands up and waves to Charles to follow him.
Soares throws a push kick but Charles slaps the foot to one side.
Soares moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soares shoots and misses
and Charles counters with a flying knee. Nice.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Charles crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Soares - the referee stops the clock and Charles gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Soares. Charles manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Soares! Charles is out on his feet! Soares rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Charles is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Charles is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jota Soares!
