PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joachim Kroll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia has chosen Ludacris - Beast Mode as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joachim Kroll!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sergio Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Garcia lands a body shot.
Kroll darts in looking for a takedown but Garcia gets double underhooks and turns Kroll into the ropes.
Kroll fails with a takedown attempt.
Garcia looks to land a combination. Kroll sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Joachim Kroll has been cut.
Garcia throws a leg kick which misses Kroll's front leg but catches the back leg as Kroll tries to avoid it.
Garcia has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kroll is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Kroll doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Garcia counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joachim Kroll. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Garcia ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kroll on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Garcia lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Garcia lands the left hand.
Kroll fails with a takedown attempt.
Kroll misses with a left hand
and Garcia counters with a good low kick that Kroll was not able to check.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Garcia with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Garcia takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kroll takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kroll chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Garcia can pounce on him.
Garcia catches Kroll with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Nice straight punches there by Garcia. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Garcia.
Kroll shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Garcia as he jumps to the side.
Garcia is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Kroll had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Garcia bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kroll gets the takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kroll wants to control for a moment but Garcia uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Kroll has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Garcia is refusing to be controlled, as Kroll sits in half guard.
Garcia wants to control but Kroll is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kroll seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Garcia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Garcia preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Kroll seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Garcia has recovered full guard.
Kroll trying to control but Garcia is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Garcia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kroll manages to get himself to full guard.

Kroll is trying to control the position but Garcia postures up.

Kroll working for a triangle but Garcia defends it easily.
Kroll wants to sweep here but Garcia controlling him for the moment.
Garcia trying to control but Kroll is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Garcia sitting in guard here, content to control.
Garcia is continuing to stall.

Kroll is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Garcia is aware though and is defending well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Garcia throws a quick inside leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sergio Garcia dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Joachim Kroll's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Garcia.
Kroll takes one to the chin there.
Garcia connects with the punch.

Kroll closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kroll lands in his opponent's guard.
Garcia is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Garcia has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kroll looking to sit in guard and control but Garcia gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garcia content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Kroll has locked up a guillotine! Kroll's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Garcia is holding on here and Kroll must be using up a lot of energy. Garcia has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Kroll gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Joachim Kroll!
A relieved looking Joachim Kroll thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
