PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Warner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Warner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Eddy Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thomas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Warner, pushing him back against the cage.

Thomas wants the takedown. Warner is fighting it off but Thomas persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Warner's guard against the cage.
Thomas is standing up over Warner. Warner looks to escape but Thomas dives into side control.

Thomas content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Warner wants to get back to his feet but Thomas drags him back down.
Thomas wants to control but Warner is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas controlling from side mount.

Thomas throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Warner being controlled for a moment.
Warner is not content to let Thomas control the position.
Warner tries to escape but Thomas is in control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Thomas tries for a kimura but Warner is defending well.
Warner really is a fat lump.
Thomas controls the position.
Thomas is looking to take a break and control but Warner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Warner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Thomas fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Thomas tries for a kimura but Warner is defending well.
Warner isn't going anywhere.
Warner wants to control but Thomas postures up.
Thomas is working Warner over with some ground and pound from side control.

Thomas is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Warner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Warner wants to control but Thomas postures up.

Warner on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Thomas controls the position.
Thomas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warner keeps working.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Warner manages to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy Thomas dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Warner blocks the body kick.
Thomas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Warner is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Thomas.

Thomas closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Warner did well to prevent Thomas getting side control.
Warner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
It looks like Thomas is going to stand back up.
Thomas perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Warner wants to get back to his feet.
Warner is controlling Thomas's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Thomas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Warner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Thomas is looking for a kimura but Warner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Thomas to get the leverage.
Thomas passes to side control.
Warner is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Thomas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Warner tries to control but Thomas manages to take his back.
Warner is taking damage to the body and head.

Warner manages to stand up with Thomas still on his back. Eventually Thomas drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

Warner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thomas on the ground.
Warner wants to get back to his feet but Thomas drags him back down.

Thomas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warner keeps working.
Warner is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Thomas trying to control the position but Warner is working away.
Warner trying his best to control but Thomas has mounted him.
Thomas sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Thomas looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Thomas looking to control but Warner is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Thomas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Thomas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Thomas is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Warner can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddy Thomas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Thomas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Warner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Thomas postures up in Warner's guard and throws a big left but Warner blocks it.
Thomas trying to control the position from guard on top but Warner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Warner keeping moving, preventing Thomas from controlling successfully.
Thomas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Eddy Thomas has got the better of the ground game so far.

Thomas is in close to Warner's body, working some short punches and elbows.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Thomas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Thomas passes into half guard.
Warner tries to get to full guard but Thomas has control of the leg.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Thomas throwing shots but Warner is blocking nicely.
Thomas tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Warner.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Thomas is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Warner's half guard.
Thomas wants to get back to his feet.
Thomas perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Thomas stalling away here and it's allowed Warner to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Warner is wriggling around but Thomas manages to pass to half guard.
Warner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thomas is working away from the top position though.

Thomas is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Thomas stalling.
Warner throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Thomas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Thomas is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Warner has managed to free his arm - good work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eddy Thomas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Thomas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
