Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mario Kate!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kate uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jimenez.
Kate looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Kate shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jimenez pinned against the cage. Jimenez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kate misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Jimenez or perhaps it was just good defense by Kate, which made it look bad.
Jimenez doesn't manage to clinch there - Kate circles away.
Jimenez sets himself, and Kate steps forward looking for the clinch! Jimenez avoids it this time.

Jimenez throws a right and a left that Kate avoids nicely.
Jimenez stalks Kate and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Kate's face. Kate staggers backwards, shaken.

Kate turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kate manages to end up in side control.
Kate wants to control but Jimenez is keeping him busy.

Kate is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jimenez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kate remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kate might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jimenez haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rene Jimenez.
Well Jimenez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
